Interior Insulation?

I am ready to order some interior sound insulation and wanted to know how much I need and where is the best place to order? I am wanting this to reduce engine and road noise. So far I looking at Brown Bread and V-comp, I've read people useing two layers of Brown Bread and one layer of V-comp? What are ya'lls thoughts?

Thanks

I don't have any suggestion but I am interrested in hearing your progress report. Question, do any of your doors have insulation already?

Re: Interior Insulation?

Don't do anything until I've gotten KwikStix to reply to this!!! He did sound insulation on his 4 doors and it is unbelievable how much it deadens the sound.

But more importantly, he did it CHEAP without buying the "official" soundproofing stuff. I just don't know what he bought.

I will forward this thread to him and hopefully he'll respond quickly.

Re: Interior Insulation?

Hey Chris,

I actually got a roll of weather gaurd for house roofs. It is important to find a LOW tar content. If not, when it gets hot it will smell funky. Mine is great, I just cant remeber the brand. I got it at Lowes. So far we've had quite a few HOT days and my Ex sits on a hot blacktop parking lot all day, not a hint of tar.

Works great!!!

Now time to install the stereo!!!!

If you want to go with the official stuff, the best on the message boards is STFU-80(think a bit and you'll figure out the acronym). My brother put it in his comarrow and he's thrilled with it.

Happy hunting

Ryan

Re: Interior Insulation?

Ryan I gots a silly question, what did you use to adhere the weather guard material to the inside of the doors with if they were indeed adhered?

Ryan,

Did your doors have any prior insulation installed? I am interested in further soundproofing my X but the doors have a 1/2" on insulation already.

Thanks,
John

Re: Interior Insulation?

I'll answer both your questions.....

CHP:
The material had an adhesive, layered with removeable brown wax paper.

d:
Once you remove the door panel, there is 1/2 inch padding. But this should be connected to the door pannel itself.

I added the black stuff to the inner door skin(the hard part to reach), and the molded sheet metal that the plastic door pannel attaches to.

Hope this answers your questions.

Re: Interior Insulation?

Ryan -

Please keep us "Posted" on your Stereo upgrade project because I'm interested in doing that too.

I'd like to add one of the new '05 model DVD & NAV combo units to simplify the install process and reduce the number of components, since there's very little space under the middle row seats.

Re: Interior Insulation?

I've been to HD almost everyday for the last 4-5. Been repairing my fence, cutting trees down (a job that the storm did only half of )

I'm going to the Museum with my daughter today so I probably won't need to run by, but I may tomorrow, I'll check it out.

Dang, something else to consider doing to the Ex.!

Re: Interior Insulation?

I went to HD and Lowes sites but couldn't locate the material Ryan speaks of and have no idea what the price range of it is,I like mods that don't cost and arm and a leg

Re: Interior Insulation?

I couldn't find either. I bought Dynamat and Lcomp and Vcomp. Kinda pricey at about $450. I'm putting it in today. I'll let ya'll know if it was worth it after my 6hr road trip to Orlando and Daytona and back for the 4th.
