Is there a way to manually turn off the X's interior overhead and exterior running board lights when the doors are open? My old suburban had a button by the headlights that disabled the interior lights. These lights are a great attraction to the mosquitos while the kids climb into the X. Thanks for any suggestions you can provide!

Just roll down windows and tell kids you're playing "Dukes of Hazzard" and they have to get in through windows.
My mom's Windstar has some programmable things that you can do with the interior lighting as did an Eddie Bauer Expedition I had as a rental. These were listed in the owner's manuals. My F350 Lariat doesn't list anything that is changeable.
Have you checked the owner's manual thoroughly?

I've checked the manual and talked with the salesman. He asked around and everyone knew what I was talking about because they referenced the button on the suburban. They said Ford just didn't offer this capability. My kid's liked the Dukes of Hazzard idea. I'll probably see them climbing in the windows tommorrow.

The upper left relay in your fuse panel is the 'Interior Light Relay'. You can pull that relay, and it will kill your interior lights.
...
There are also 2 fuses that will kill your interior lights.
...
I recently posted wiring instructions for someone to wire in a switch for an F-250 and he replied "Well, I did the mod you told us about, splicing the wire that would control all 3 groups and it WORKS!!!!" However, he indicated it also disabled his power windows.
...
Also note, the wiring for the Excursion is not quite the same.
...
Another post in that same thread suggests finding a fuse that was satisfactory to kill the lights, blowing that fuse, and then wiring (via 2 pigtails) a fuse and switch into that blown fuse.
...
Here is that thread: http://forums.ford-diesel.com:8080/u...ML/002207.html

Hi! I just found this thread while searching the forum for another similar thread. Check out http://forums.ford-diesel.com/ubb/ul...c&f=9&t=000446 for a thread on the same topic. This includes a link to a PhotoPoint album where I dove under the dash to solve this problem.
The fuse option does kill the windows, too. So I opted to go after the same relay that shuts the lights off after the doors are open for a long period. Works fine. I also decided to use two switches, one for the interior lights and one for the running boards. With a double pole switch you can solve the problem with a single switch.
