Just Installed Rancho Front Stabilizer

I just spent the first warm day (above 60) installing my Rancho Front wheel stabilizer. What a Breeze. It took about 10 Minutes to do. For those who were questioning the model number it is RS5410, it is made for the Ford Excursion. I called Rancho to verify this. I do not know how other companies are but the Rancho comes with a new "pin" bolt and a spacer, I guess so there will be no rubbing. Took it for a test drive with the family and it is great. What a difference.

Re: Just Installed Rancho Front Stabilizer

Is it that noticeable? What did it change?? Just curious. (always looking for another project! ) How many miles did you have on your X?

Regards,
Dave

Re: Just Installed Rancho Front Stabilizer

Dave, the last time I installed a Rancho steering stabilizer was on my old '85 GMC Diesel Jimmy 4x4,It buffered down the recoil the steering gets from railroad crossings(esp the crappy ones) and reduces front end shimmy(big tires)

I'd like to install one as well on the wife's Excursion soon.

Re: Just Installed Rancho Front Stabilizer

Well damnit Bill! I figured you'd have done it already!

I don't really have any "steering" complaints on my X right now, but I'm always looking for the inexpensive mods.

Have a good one,
Dave

Re: Just Installed Rancho Front Stabilizer

I mentioned it to the wife a couple times the advantages of the steering stabilizer then she rebuts with"it steers okay"

It is a very inexpensive upgrade to do and one of these days I'll sneak one onto the truck, then she'll be phoning me from the road asking what I did to the truck this time

All the mods done to the Excursion I get praise for then when it comes to another upgrade she'll give me the "It ain't broke" line

Re: Just Installed Rancho Front Stabilizer

I take it you did not have a stabilizer from the factory. My 03 has one but it looks weak. I am sure replacing the factory one would be even easier unless they do not match up. Did you have a stock one? I had a Jeep Grand Cherokee that shook the wheel right out of your hand during breaking or hitting bumps, it had a factory stabilizer but it was shot. They do make a huge difference and with a staight axle they are a must.

Re: Just Installed Rancho Front Stabilizer

I know our 2002 has the factory unit but I believe there's always room for improvement especially when it comes to Ford vehicles

Re: Just Installed Rancho Front Stabilizer

Yes, I did have the factory stabilizer, and at 38000 miles it was leaking, and was easily moved by one hand. I notice a difference after hitting a abum, the truck wants to stay on the road more. I have stock size tires which I want to upgrade after front spring or lift kit is done.

Re: Just Installed Rancho Front Stabilizer

All the 4x4 Excursions come with a poor quality steering stabilizer as standard equipment from the factory.

Re: Just Installed Rancho Front Stabilizer

How did the Rancho RS5410 stablizer compare in size to the factory unit?

The RS5404 is about the same size as factory.

The RS5406 is noticeably large diameter and longer, this requires repositioning of the mounting bracket.
