Keyed today.

We had our "Christmas Brunch" today. When I returned to the parking lot, someone had keyed my 'X all the way around --- every body panel.

My wife took it pretty hard. My first thought was "Hrm. Now I don't have to be careful not to scratch it off roading..."

Anyways, what's the best way to fix this sort of thing?

Re: Keyed today.

It kind of puts the xmass sprit on hold . I think if the clear coat is gone where the scrach is, its a trip to the body shop . Sorry to hear this, hopefully they will get their reward

Re: Keyed today.

there was a recent editorial out of Colorado that linked US involvement in Iraq and soldiers dieing over there in order to provide oil for our Exxon Valdez trucks. This kind of misinformed press causes people that are a little nutty to do things like keying Excursions, or like in my case I had my tires slashed at a TGIF. we need to write letters to the editor in rebuttal to these misguided statements

Re: Keyed today.

When we first bought our Ex, some nut keyed the passenger side door down to the metal before it had 1500 miles on it. Gotta love those misguided tree huggers! I'm just curious, since they're so concerned about emissions, do ya think they have catalytic converters on their bongs? Kevin

Re: Keyed today.

Man, what a lousy stunt to pull at this time of the year. You have my condolences. I do have to say though, that the wife and I park our "big rigs" way out in the parking lots, away from the idiots. They are both almost 5 years old and don't have any parking lot dings, etc on them because of it.
It always amazes me how people will fight for a parking space right at the curb, then get out and go in the gym.

Re: Keyed today.

Just got in from a Doc appt and while I was seeing the doc my wife and kids went shopping, well low and behold she was turning in the left lane at a controlled intersection and one of those white tart cart buses was going straight and blitzed the passengers tow mirror on the Excursion(they kept going)I'm sure they had equal damage

Now I have to decide to upgrade to a pair of new/used lighted tow mirrors or just replace the passengers mirror using the $250 deductible on the insurance

But a mirror is probably less painful than a full key job,so I share the pain today

Re: Keyed today.

My condolances to those who have been abused by the key scapers. They probably work for the Sierra club. They will get there reward some day.

I join the crowd of those who park as far away from the door as possible. I've owned the X for about a year and don't have any sratches or door dings. I'm knocking on wood as I type this.

Bill

You will like the new lighted TT mirrors if you decide to upgrade. They are the niceest mirrors for towing that I have ever owned.

Regards;

David

Re: Keyed today.

The wife informed me that fundage to upgrade to the 2004 mirrors is not possible not at least till Feb at the earliest so we gotta go with a replacement mirror glass so she can see traffic on the right side.

I added some photos in my album showing the damage, check it out and give me your opinion if repairable outside the shell damage

Re: Keyed today.

Unfortunately, in a way, parking further away was a disadvantage here. They've aparently had problems. The owner's acura was keyed this month, too... so they have cameras covering the front of the lot. Further back (the front was full) is not covered. Sigh.

So I get the tube of paint stuff from the dealer, right? Is ther a product to put on top of that to mostly hide it? My truck does a lot of rough work, so a perfect job is not what I'm after. I just want to prevent (as much as possible) future rust 'n stuff.

As I said to my wife... now I don't have to feel bad when _I_ scratch the paint .

Re: Keyed today.

I'm so sorry about you getting your X vandalized. People can be so cruel sometimes. Talk to your insurance agent. It should be covered under "comprehensive."
Whenever I get a new truck, I deliberately take it out to the brush stick it into 4 low and stomp the accelerator. It scratches the heck out of the clear coat and gets it out of my system. I scratched it first and I did it on my own terms. It helps me take the sting out of problems that come up later.

Re: Keyed today.

Sorry to hear it . . .there's special place in hell for people who would do something like that. . .

I got my passenger side door keyed at my daughter's high school graduation before I even made the first payment. I just hope someday to catch somebody doing that ..even if it's not my car.

Have a good one,
Dave

Re: Keyed today.

I had about 400 miles on mine and someone took a diamond ring and scratched my windsheild. Some say it was the carwash but I would have heard the scratch while inside. I have not fixed it because I don't want them replacing the sheild and having leaks. I would have broken their arm and took the ring if I had caught them. Who knows, it could have been my x wife too. People are so stupid and uninformed which leads to crap like this. Why can't they just stay home and watch Jerry Springer. Re: Keyed today.

This is a link to the colorado based complainer and his article. I post this not as "politics" but as a warning to other excursion owners that you just can't trust anyone not to vandalize your rigs. People really hate us for what we drive.

Based on his attitude and the fact that he is a Law Professor, my guess is he drives a hybrid ricer filled with lead-acid batteries.
Know your enemy...

Re: Keyed today.

That article was so ridiculous it hardly justifies a reply.
Just another over educated nut case. IMHO.

Thanks for the post.
