Lariat Interior w/ exposed metal?

Just sold my 3/4 ton 4x4 454 Suburban and went to look at an Excursion. It was a white Lariat with tan leather. As I looked inside I noticed right away that you can see painted metal around all of the door frames. What gives? this truck with a V-10 stickered at 41 grand. I would get the PSD and that would push it up to 46,000 dollars. Can't Ford even cover the doors for 46k?? Leather,Wood(probably fake) and painted white steel. Maybe it would be better in a dark color but it looked like crap to me.

Re: Lariat Interior w/ exposed metal?

Maybe I don't understand, but isn't there painted metal around the door opening of every car on the planet made of metal?

Re: Lariat Interior w/ exposed metal?

Actually if you look inside most 40+ thousand dollar cars you wont see any exposed metal surfaces. In a pickup this may seem inconsequential but in a $40k vehicle it looks cheap and unfinished. And considering that Ford profits over 10k per truck you would think they could have done better.

Re: Lariat Interior w/ exposed metal?

navigator and expedition are the same way,you would think the people that design the vehicle would think of this.

white does stand out more though, i have the same comments about my navigator.

Re: Lariat Interior w/ exposed metal?

Now, I'm not into starting any wars here, but I do perfer the metal over the plastic. My ol' Bessie (Chevy K-5, Silverado) had very little plastic and TONS of painted metal showing all over the inside, including the front of the dash was metal. I sure do miss ol' Bessie. Now this exposed paint has got me thinkin' to name my new EXCURSION (when it arrives) Ol' Bessie II. Yep, metal makes a lot of noise when it gets loose. But I like it better than the plastic, because it takes me forever to find the plastic part that is causing a squeek.

Now I know "To each, their Own"......

As long as the buyer is happy with the truck does it really matter if there is too little or too much metal exposed? Afterall, there are more important things to worry about, like getting the APCM, TTM, Remote Starter, and Guages installed!

Ordered 2000 EXCURSION on 11/16/99, Chestnut, PSD, 3.73 LS, AT Tires, Skid Plate, Tele PWR TT Mirrors, Chrome Wheels, Reverse Sen. Aid. Locked 2/22, ETA 3/6, Priority 01!

Re: Lariat Interior w/ exposed metal?

You sell your Suburban and then decide to look over the Ford products?

Instead of just being critical of Ford, why don't you compare the maker's products and give us an insight as to your buying decision?

Re: Lariat Interior w/ exposed metal?

I looked around a bit and decided you are talking about the painted metal that shows between the weatherstrip of window and the door opening weatherstrip. On the great list of things that bother me this one goes absolutely at the bottom.

Re: Lariat Interior w/ exposed metal?

This was the only place the paint did't peel on my '88.

Re: Lariat Interior w/ exposed metal?

Seem to recall that the Excursion (and Suburban for that matter)are based on the pick-up light truck type vehicle. In the Excursion's case it is a Super Duty with a permanent bed cap.

If you care to compare this type of $40,000+ vehicle to a Mercedes or BMW best you add some more "0's" to the MSRP....
