19-foot gas-guzzler

Thank Ford for all the ads they put in Trailer Life magazine over the past six years showing it as the only diesel 3/4 ton SUV for towing...NOT.

Re: The Last Excursion

That's OK. Now, as I smoke the guy in the Mustang GT and his eye's are bugged out and mouth hanging wide open as he finally pulls up next to me, I can not only look over and nod and smile, I can remind him that he can't have one now. LOL

Just kidding!!

Re: The Last Excursion

When I ewent to work Friday night at 6 the line was still there. At 5 this morning they were dismantling it. And 225 people getting laid off sucks too.

Re: The Last Excursion

This is the end of an era folks. The last real utility truck capable of doing anything you wanted and safe enough to get you home at the end of the night. It also marks a very stupid move on Fords part; they turned the whole utility market over to GM! I just wonder what the future of the KTP will be...

My hopes are with you guys (and gals).

From the article linked above:

[ QUOTE ]
"Ford's addressing it because gas prices are skyrocketing and people are freaking out."

[/ QUOTE ]

What nonsense. Anyone here freaking out? Anyone here even know anyone who's freaking out?

Seems to me that Ford milked this cow 'till it would have cost money to update it, then killed it. Guess I'll try to drive my 01 'till the wheels fall off, which I'd hoped to do, anyway.

Re: The Last Excursion

My brother has one all decked out with 24" wheels keystone hood tinted 3 tvs playstation and some other mods and I can say that it was always a head turner and still is. I think they are great to drive and hit the clubs with but never really liked towing with it that's the only area it doesn't seem to excel at.

Re: The Last Excursion

Damn, I have one, I love it, but it's now where near perfect and certainly culd use quite a few changes; just look at this forum! If I were Ford, I'm sure the same business decision would have been made and I don't even know the whole story.

Be happy you have one and it works for you.

Re: The Last Excursion

this article is not much better but at least it has a little bit of facts. Like the fact it actually came with a diesel.

Re: The Last Excursion

I actually emailed the AP mantioning that like most media writers, their writer inadvertanlty slanted the article and improperly classed it as that 19 foot gas hog when most owners have diesel Excursions and get much better milage then other smaller SUV's.

I'm sure it got filter and/or filed, but I did it anyway.

Re: The Last Excursion

Well that's interesting. It doesn't start of very flattering...

--------
marking the end for the gas-guzzling behemoth of an SUV that, for many, came to symbolize Detroit's excesses.
--------

But interesting.

Oh and if you're reading this Jerry Reynolds (ya I know he's not but....) Unless you've changed since your Sales Manager days at Champion Ford you're still a prick. I'm sure you don't remember me (back to 1986 and you blew me off), but I believe you'll know the last name, and from earlier than Champion and I believe even before Dallas.

Ok, it's early I the AM and I just felt like it.

Re: The Last Excursion

We are all driving collector cars (trucks). BTW, for '05 JD Powers named the Armada the best full size SUV...the "X" was named the second best. Since when is 21.94 mpg at 75 mph, including passing through several small towns, considered guzzling?

Re: The Last Excursion

Ford would have had better success with it if it was called the F350 Crew Wagon. Alot of guys that would have purchased a PSD Excursion were turned off by by it being labeled a SUV and the Sierra Club along with the media would not have made such a big deal over it if it was marketed like the SuperDuty pickups.

Re: The Last Excursion

Joe,

As usual, you are absolutely correct. Along with your idea, Ford should have switched to only building the Ex with the diesel engine.
