Leather Seats

I have heard that the leather seats absorb dyes from your cloths, leaving the seats stained.

Is this true?

If so, what has anyone done to resolve the situation?

Re: Leather Seats

Hmmm.... That's a new one on me. If anything, the new leathers are easier to clean and maintain than ever. Like any material, you can stain it - but you really would have to work at it.

Personally, I've had leather on three vehicles and prefer not to get it. It's just not as comfortable as cloth for me. Got the XLT X specifically to obtain the cloth interior.

Best to y'all

Re: Leather Seats

If the leather is the same on my navigator, which it most likely is, it does not. I have had my vehicle for almost 3 years now and 34,000 miles, and I have no problem with dyeing of the seats. One thing I have noticed abotu ford leather is thta it wears out easily on the side. I've had to get the top half of my driver's seat re-apholestered and I had to do the same with my Explorer because of wear from just getting in and out.

Re: Leather Seats

Most(this inlcludes Ford) automobile leather interior is clear coated these days and does not bleed or rub off. There are only a few manufacturers that do not currently treat their leather. Jaguar is one of them. I suspect probably because the coating robs a bit from the softness, etc. Anyway....for what it's worth..
Cheers, Toolman

Re: Leather Seats

MY 00 X LTD with tan leather is getting "blue" from my jeans. I can wash it off with saddle soap, but within a few days it is back. My 00 Expedition has grey leather. I don't know if it gets "blue" or not because there is not a lot of difference between blue and grey. But very noticeable on tan seats

Re: Leather Seats

I had that problem with the blue jean coloration on my wife's 99 Expy with tan seats.

So far, I have not had the problem with blue jeans and the X seems to have a different leather on the seat bottoms than the Expy did.
