Lift For an 04 X

I am sure that all at this site have had plenty of lift questions before, but I have questions and after reding sone of the post I am sure that some of you have the ansewers.
First, I am only looking for about 3" of lift, and don't want to change the ride to somthing rougher. I see a couple of ways to go 1) is springs like the ones sold at 4wheel parts wholesale. 2) hangers like the Donhoe racing people sell. 3) X codes or something like them.
Second, if you lift the truck only 3" is it recomended to use a pitman arm and lower the pan hard bar.
Third, which one rides the best.
forth, if you have to lift the rear due you use a block or an add a leaf and due you loose the stock tracktion spring, I am not sure if that is the proper term for that thing.

Thanks

Re: Lift For an 04 X

Sorry it took so long for a reply! Welcome to the site and I'll try to give you options from my two pennies worth

I really didn't like the ride of my EX at all! I thought it was actually a little unsafe to drive and cornered like crap! I figured the problem was more than just crappy Ford shocks. Well Ford for some stupid reason doesn't even put V code ("medium duty") front springs under their HEAVIEST engine offered! SO I started out wanting to go with the snow plow springs (X codes) that where ONLY offered on the f250/f350-gas engines and F450/F550 as for the rear I was going to go with the 4" block and new u-bolts. Then I was going to install Donahoe shocks on all 4 corners and be done with some 33" tires and wheels. I know you said you didn't want to go with something rougher...but from what I've been hearing it really isn't close to being a harsh ride at all with the X springs.

So basically this is what you are looking at for option #3.... replacing the front springs with new X codes replace the rear 2" block with a 4" one. Add some new u-bolts and Donahoes shocks. Call them for the shocks...I thought they had some cheaper ones available. I only see the $95 dollar ones on their site.

For option #2....You may want to look into THEIR stuff since you don't want to stiffin her up a bit. But you have to buy shocks and rear blocks and u-bolts so you are around the same $$$ as X springs.

As for the rear add-a-leaf I never looked into it and I think someone here has done it and maybe they will see this topic. But remember...If you put leaves in your going to be looking into new u-bolts anyways so I would think it would be a little cheaper to go the blocks. Plus the blocks won't effect the rear sping pack at all.

I would either go X spring or hanger system rather than the 4 wheel parts stuff. Just my opinion! Their stuff will most likely give you a ride you won't like

You don't have to go with the pitman arm but someone here may disagree with me. I would concider the panrod bar to keep the axle aligned perfectly under the truck.

All this crap is just my opinion so good luck with whatever you do!

Brent.
