Lifting the wife's truck

So we were at the 4x4 Jamboree in Bloomsburg over the weekend and the frist truck we saw was a lifted Ex. My wife said Hmmm that looks good, but it's a bit tall. (7" total). We got to talking to the Rough Country guy and he said the 2" Super duty kit actually yields 3.5" on the Ex and all total it would cost about $300. The wife said let's do it. Before she could change her mind I had receipt in hand. It will be here this week. The next logical step was tires. So, what the lady wants, the lady gets, and that was a set of Pro-Comp 1069's in 17x9 and a set of Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ's in 35x15.50x17. I'll post pics when it is done.

Re: Lifting the wife's truck

Sounds cool. My wife was probably polluted by the lift my truck used to have. It rode really bad. I have since taken it off. Are those Pro Comp 1069's polished or chromed? If they are just polished I would suggest something else. They are a real PITA. I had some MB motoring polished ones on my truck for a while and they were a maintenence nightmare. Be sure to post some pics.

Re: Lifting the wife's truck

I assume the kit was without shocks, maybe U bolts since those are $100. The rear will be blocks but what is the front, is it a shackle kit or an add a leaf, or even a new spring pack. I went 3 and wish I had done 4 but I still can I just need to find the time, it's a lot of work for 1 inch. You will love the look when it is done, it's even better to come up on another X, they seem so low now. Do a search here but one big tip is to remove the front bumper if you need to change the spring pack, it is the only way to do it fast and right.

Re: Lifting the wife's truck

I just checked the receipt and it was $349. The kit consists of (4) shocks, front spring pack, U-bolts, rear block and U-bolts. Drop shipped for free.

Re: Lifting the wife's truck

Those tires will hit the springs and also the body with that small of a lift. They also really need 12" wide rims or they will be VERY squirmy I have the 13.5" on 9" and even they really need 10" rims. Get the 12.5" ones with 10" rims but be aware that I went thur 7 tires to get 4 half way round ones

Since its for your wife get some less agressive AT's, she will be happer.

PS there is a reason the call their company Rough Country.

Re: Lifting the wife's truck

That is a great deal on that lift, if it is too rough for her you could change out the shocks, a good gas charged shock will be smoother than a hydralic shock. I have a tough country add a leaf on mine, it was called the EZ ride, it has been fine but the socks are now shot (70,000 miles) and I need to change them.

Cary- Thanks for your input.

I am prepared to trim the valence and/or the mudflap if needed.

I have run 12.5" wide tires on 8" tires with no problem. In fact the 38's on my Bronco are on 8" rims and have no problem. I'm sure the 9" will be fine. If not, I'll eat crow on this forum for all to read.

I hear people bag on Rough Country all the time and I have used a few of their kits with no problem with the ride on road or off.

I suggested she go with AT's, she had her heart set on the MTZ's. If/When she decides she doesn't like them I'll put the tires on my pickup and get her some AT's

Re: Lifting the wife's truck

Wide tires and narrow rims work on lighter cars and trucks but on a heavy rig unless you inflate them to max its still not as tight as with wider rims. I like to hit the corners hard and the control with the wider rims can't be beat. Also with a X side winds affect them more and the wider rims really help. Just my take on it .
