Would the Ex. in my Signature have limited Slip standard. If not can you tell from the VIN #. Thanks for the help....I really don't want to have to Jack it up to find out.

The easyest way to check is to get under your X and look at the tag on the rar end, there are a set of numbers that states the axle ratio example 3.73 or 3.L3 if it has the L where the 7 should be then you have a limited slip rear end if it has the 7 and not the L the you have an open rear end . I hope I helped . Roger

On the white door jamb decal look for "axle" and under it will be the code.
If it begins with a C it's limited slip,if it's a 31,32 or 33 you have open differential.
Hope this helps some.

Most of the Diesel Excursions I've come across have the LS and the Gassers have open diffs but best check when the better half gets in
It has always been a line item on every ford I have ordered
So unless you ask for it or they ordered it you will not get it.

Yes, if you ask you shall receive, otherwise you have 2 wheel 4 wheel drive. There is a LS for the front also.

Yes they are. The best idea for the front is an air locker. ARB makes the top rated one. The only problem at all with having a LS front differential is that you have to know how to drive with it and be "smart". If you punch the go pedal too hard on a curve for instance, you could get the whole vehicle sliding sideways. The thing to do is to shift out of 4 wheel drive (using the transfer case) when driving at higher speeds. Or if you have an air locker, just turn off the switch converting you back to "three wheel drive". The reason they quit putting them in from the factory is the age old (nowadays anyway) practice of making everything as safe as possible for the "masses". Those of us who either take the time to learn, have more common sense, have a higher IQ, or have good mechanical ability, don't get to have our toys/tools as a result.
Most of us that are savvy 4x4'ers have probably heard of ARB,just haven't heard of one installed on an Excursion (yet)
It's a good thought putting a locker on the front but as Pawnbroker said you gotta know when, where and how much
I may look into one in the near future as something else to add on to the Excursion
I bought a new F150 in 1995 and was able to get the LS front axle, but the dealer said 96 was the last model year (and 96 was really only a half-year for the F150 as the 97 was released very early.) You are right in that it drove very funny, always pulling you straight... but I never worried about being stuck!
To that, I once pulled a buddy with a lifted 4x4 F250 out of a ditch with a 77 Mustang 4cyl. Now the Mustang was not my idea, it was a company car, but the buddy had slipped off the road and had his front tire extended over a ditch and the rear on ice on the road. The Mustang only had to give enough pull to get the one front tire onto some solid ground and he was free, but that is the penalty (a 4 cyl mustang as a savior!) for no LS on either end.
