Little Woman

How do I convince the little woman into a
psd 4x4 X? She says she don't want no diesel!

Re: Little Woman

worm: i think i would tell her that it would make me feel really good. perhaps how good it is to say yours is stroked...

myself, i just went and bought it and then took it to where she works and made her aware that i had done it. of course, the Mrs. does pretty much what she wants to do too......

in the case of a PSD x, i am told that they are gonna quit making them and they will become 'collector's items'. maybe approaching this from an 'investment' point of view?

i will consult the Mrs. and get back to you.

i still like mine stroked.

Re: Little Woman

Hey worm tell her the truth , the PSD gets much better milage, lasts much longer, and it has more noise deadening insullation. Also there is the safety factor diesel fuel is he$$ to catch on fire in an accident or a spraying leak also the extra weight of the big ol tank makes it much safer in an accident. If you can get her to go an a test drive, my X is quiter then my 99PSD was.

Take care

Re: Little Woman

i am sure glad the Mrs. is asleep.

i have recently gotten the lust for one of those freightliner 5er toters. the Mrs. is opposed to this idea, to say the least.

how about just telling her you bought it and it is gonna cost you about another 2k and a couple of weekends to make it what it should have been in the beginning?

if you do it right, they are a lot of fun to drive. like the man says, what you essentially have is a fast tank. comfortable too. good traveling vehicle.

good luck.

i like mine stroked.

Re: Little Woman

Well, they way I convinced my wife is that the diesel is more economical (both in mileage and longevity of the engine) and MUCH more safe. The safety difference between the PSD and V-10 is that the PSD is heavier in the case of a front-end collision, the added weight at the engine height adds stability to prevent rolling (lower center of gravity...yeah, yeah, it's a stretch), people would yield right of way in lane changes since she'd be driving a HUGE truck, and the engine has more power in case you need to really gas it to avoid an accident/pass a car, etc.

Of course, this was a difficult task of convincing since my wife is a 5'3" Bay Area girl (CA, that is)...and it was going to be her vehicle. Not only that, but her dad kept telling us horror stories of diesels he had owned/dealt with over the years (of course, most of them were military vehicles in the 60's...hmmmm, I wonder why there were problems!)

Six months later, my wife says she LOVES our X and is so glad we bought it over a mini-van or Expedition. She looks pretty cute driving that big ole beast too!!!

Re: Little Woman

It took me almost a year to do it and I had to buy her an Expedition 1st. When we were getting the Exp. I told her it was not big enough. (we have five kids and one on the way..adoption) She didn't want the X because she thought it was too big. Well after three trips back to Utah to see her family, and every trip to the mall (the stroller won't fit in the back of the Exp., so she has to put it in a seat.) she finally agreed the Exp. was not large enough for us. But she still didn't want the X. Well along comes December and they are offering $8,000 off and .9% financing. Using her own words against her I said "It is too good of a deal to pass up" she was speachless for the first time in 12 years. I may never be able to play that card again, but the X is in the garage. Also, when she didn't want the diesel I used all the logic used on the previos posts, but the gas milage vs V-10 was the winner. Now she is happy and wants to get a bigger travel trailer to go camping in. "Well we have the extra power, so we might as well use it" she said. God I love her.

Re: Little Woman

It is really simple. Let her drive it for a week. That was my mistake. Now we have two nearly identical tanks. TT mirrors are on order, so after they're on the only differences are the R4S vs. AT tires, and soon enough we'll fix that with Michelins.

photo of the twins Hers has the small mirrors, the AT tires, and doesn't have the "Power Stroke Diesel V8" badges yet. (Or the AIC, TTM, and preluber, but a guy can only afford so much after he makes the payments on two Xes!)

Re: Little Woman

I sold my wife on the milage, longer life,
and safty of the fuel. I made the mistake of
letting her dirve it the first week that we
had it and now I have two of them. Both of
mine are identical.
Now when some gaser pulls up the the diesel
pump she gives them hell for gassing up at
a diesel pump.

Re: Little Woman

My wife had an Astro Van with dutch doors and wanted a full size SUV . So I told her the Excursion is the only SUV with dutch doors. I let her read this forum about the advantage of the PSD over the v10 and she agreed. But this winter she got stuck with a fuel gelling problem and had it towed to the dealer. She was pissed until we paid $1.299 for diesel the other day when the cheapest gas was $1.399. We both love the range on a long trip with the PSD/44gal tank combo.

Wow - the powers of persuasion evident in this group are OUTSTANDING! Great arguments from a great bunch of guys.

My wife loves to drive our X but hates to park or back it up. That's fine by me.

Best to y'all

Re: Little Woman

We have a perfect pact that has worked for years.

She makes the decisions for the inside of the house with my input. I'm very easy to please, no weird colors or no more plants.

I do all of the outside items with input from her. This includes the landscaping (except flowers) and any tools (toys) that I REALLY need.

Also the outside items entails picking the vehicles. Her only stipulations are: it has to be a full size, automatic & have a leather interior.

I am very lucky to have a low maintenance lady.

Re: Little Woman

As a "little woman" driving a PSD X, I didn't have to be convinced. I wanted an X ever since Ford announced them and once I saw one, I wanted it even more!

I became familiar with the diesel benefits after my dh got his PSD F-250. In fact, I drove it for a week last summer so I could get the feel of a diesel. I admit - I hated it! But it soon grew to love after a 2 week trip to Florida. For practical purposes, I knew a vehicle like the Excursion needed a diesel and never considered the V10. For the record - I love my Exursion and I snicker everytime I pass another "suburban soccer mom" driving an X that isn't a PSD.
