Locking Gas Cap

FYI

I found a locking gas cap NAPA. It is for an F250 2002 diesel.

There are two types. It is the screw type. $25.00

Half of what Ford wants.

Re: Locking Gas Cap

Will the screw in type from NAPA fit a 2003 Excursion? As far as I can tell, FORD doesn't make a locking "diesel" cap that fits an Excursion.

Re: Locking Gas Cap

Shhh - I used the locking Stant brand fuel cap I bought for my 1999 Expedition. I took the cap off before trade in and switched it to the Excursion. After 3-1/2 years, it seems to work fine. Except for locking feature, the caps looked similar.

John,
Who sells the "Stant brand" locking fuel cap?

Re: Locking Gas Cap

I bought from Pep Boys. It was for an Expedition, but it fit fine.

What does the book list?

Re: Locking Gas Cap

Be careful. The locking gas cap must be for diesel. The one they will try and sell you will be for gas! Ford part # F75Z-9030-GA. This is the part for the Explorer,Expedition and Excursion all gasers! The part# for the year 2000,don't know if it's the same for later years is
Ford Part #F67Z-9030-DA. This is the one for a diesel. If you bought it from Ford take it back and get the correct one.

Re: Locking Gas Cap

I hear you. I checked the Stant catalog. The diesel and gas trucks take the same cap.

I thought I would give it a try since I had the old cap anyway. As I said earlier, going on 3-1/2 years and no problems yet.

I wonder what the difference is with the Ford caps?

Re: Locking Gas Cap

I emailed Stant regarding which locking fuel cap would fit my X and this was their reply...

“Milton, if your Excursion has a threaded fuel cap, the proper Stant locking cap is our boxed 10501 or carded 11501 cap. This part can be found at all Pep Boys or Advance auto parts stores.”

I purchased the 11501 (plastic wrapped card) for $15 at Pep Boys, and it fits perfectly.
