longer cranking times.

What might be the cause of longer than normal cranking before the motor fires to life?? Seems to have just started doing this.

OK, I'll guess.

Could be because of slight leakage in the HP oil system. Pressure has to build up to 500 psi before injectors are activated. With some leaking out, it would take slightly longer.

Could be the batteries are getting a little weak, too.

Could be a bad GPR or glow plugs. (Yes, the light off even in warm temps with the engine cold - controlled by oil temp)

I agree totally. Check those items b4 you wear out your starter.

Do a load test on each battery. Had a similar problem this week, one bad battery.

I doubt it's a battery issue. It doesn't crank slower, just a little longer than I remember. I suspect it's probably because the truck sits a LOT more than it used to.
Used to be my daily driver (can't afford the diesel fuel any longer), but now it only gets driven once a week and then only about 10 miles.

Fuel filter, and mine did this when the alt started going bad, it seemed to spin but the torque was not there so it took longer. Mine went at 100k and 180k..exactly 10 miles after I watched it turn 180k....then on my bike, the clutch cable broke 3 miles after it turned 10,000..it was horrible, it happend on the hwy and I made it almost home, the problem came when I had to stop, no way to push it fast enough, put it in 2nd gear and not stall it....

Battery. These trucks need a huge amount of power to fire the injectors and when the batteries are low it can crank fine but not produce the 130v (? something like that maybe more) that is necessary to trip the injectors. Check the batteries. If they are ok then let it sit for a few days if possible and on top of the HP oil reservoir you will find an inspection plug. Open it and see if you have oil in the reservoir. If not then the check valve is leaking, if it is full then move on. I vote batteries.

Motion Man the first two sentences of you sig are evil but extremely funny :-)

Yea....I met every one of those Slinkys driving a load thru Ohio, went from Grand Rapids, MI to FL and back, it was only Ohio where they drove like complete idiots. I was passed by Semis in KY, TN, GA and FL but in OH they drove 50!!!! and the tools passed each other at 52!!! Then the autos just stayed in the left lane and drove 50 too!!!
