Been running U codes up front for 30K miles. Edelbrock shocks with 70K miles. Just over 80k miles now. One of the fronts lost all the fluid so I put stock shocks back on and sent in Edelbrocks back for warranty exchange. I'm still waiting for Edelbrocks(about 2 months), supposed to ship this week.
Question is, should I convert over to longer shocks or does it make a difference. Since so many have switched over to U,V or X front springs, how many have gone to a longer shock?
We also have the "stock sized" Edelbrocks (with 28k) and "u" codes on our X. We have no other mods that would change the height other than 285 BFG's. So far so good!! I have been lead to believe by many in this forum that you do not have to convert to a longer shock under these conditions. Cool, more money for other stuff!! Happy Holidays!!

I'm running stock length RS9000X's with no problems. I think you only need longer shocks if you're lifting more than 2 inches. I got about and inch to inch and 1/2 out of the U-Codes.

Dave

Sounds good. Thanks for the replies. These stock shocks hung around my garage for 4 years, but they will go straight to the curb after installing the Edelbrocks.
Are there any ride differences from the stock to U to V springs...with 295's and 16x10 wheels now this mod is next on my list. If you had to start over which springs would you guys prefer and what shocks?
V codes offer a little more height and would probably be better with your wheel and tire combo. Ride is better without bottoming out with either spring. Plenty of shock info. on this site. It took me 70K miles to destroy an Edelbrock shock on Michigan roads. I sent them back (fronts) for exchange and been waiting two months. Might just throw some Monroe reflex on for $39 each.
Save those old shocks. You might need them if you need to warranty the new shocks. Some manufactures take there sweet time in warranty turn around time.

No doubt, I saved them for 4 years. I can't wait, the ride with these old shocks is terrible. Edelbrock gave me three production dates so far 11/19, 12/3 and now today 12/10. Last week they told me for sure 12/3 and ship Monday 12/6.
You might want to check when your replacement Edelbrocks arrive to see if their collapsed length is longer than the stock shocks. If the Edelbrocks measure longer, they may be bottoming internally, destroying them, sooner or later. This is the only condition under which I have ever seen a Bilstein fail in 25 years. If this proves to be the case, see if Edelbrock will make you a shorter shock with the valving you want. (They can, just remains to be seen if they will.) If you don't have any luck, go with Bilstein BE5-6208 in the front and 2003 Excursion or F-250 bumpstops. You could lift and add longer bump stops, but I don't think that's the best way to go.

I kinda lucked out with the Ranchos I guess as I had the adjustment knob on the front right not want to turn so I drove it over to the dealer I purchased from(4 Wheel parts)showed the salesman the errant shock he came out with a new replacement and swapped em on spot,I thought that was good warranty service personally tho not many people talk highly of 4WP.
Gee I bought my RSXs from Summint back in early 2002 Just this summer I put 9000s on the rear and the price at Advance was good so I asked if they would warranty the RSXs that had a little age and miles on them, they said fine so I ordered 4 shocks put them on took the old RSXs back for a full credit.
It was painless
