I looks like I'll get 95K to 100K out of the Firestone Steeltex tires and I looking for a replacement that gets great mileage. I'll probably have to stay with Steeltex's but I'd like more options.

My god, how many miles do you go on nearly bald tires before declaring them worn out??? A set of new tires is $400, considering how much I laid out for my Ex that's peanuts...
I'd have been scared to drive on em' if I were you probably for the last 25k miles or maybe more that you did.

I would rather run on a bald Michelin than a new Firestone. My buddie had the Steeltek on his Chevy pickup and it's scary to drive in the rain. It would have massive wheelspin with even a little throttle (6.0 and 4:10 gears) making it impossible to pull out in traffic when wet. We replaced them with LTX M/S and there is only wheelspin if you want to induce it. If the tires spun that easy when wet, they stopped that poorly also. I have seen over 50K on the LTX M/S without being bald.

I'm with northshoreoutfitters (jeez that's a long name..lol). I'll stick with Michelin all the way. I've always had better service out of those than any other make. I'd say the worse tires I ever got were the BFG's All-terrain, they would melt real fast and the traction isn't all that great especially in mud and muck, snow it was even worse.

I have been extremely happy with my Coopers so far. I have always been a Michellin fan, but I think the Coopers are a very similar tire as far as rubber hardness, nice quiet tread pattern, and tighter handling. I got the set installed and all the other stuff that goes along with that for $603.00.
I just replaced my Firestones at 90,500 miles and never had a flat. My new tires are the Nitto's 295-75-16's.
My Steeltex tires looked and rode great! I had 44,000 miles on them and they looked like they were going to go at least another 45k. Then the right rear tread separated an beat the hell out the side of my X. 1,000 miles later the left side did the same. At least $3,000 in damage. Needless to say I don't have Firestones on it anymore.
