I recommend looking at the MBRP systems and an AFE intake. The MBRP systems fit well, look good, and are priced right. AFE offers either a stage I intake or stage II for maximum air flow. They are also offered in standard filter media or Pro-Guard 7 for the best filtration. Check our website for more info. If you have any questions, dont hesitate to give us a call.

aFe for the air box and Magnaflow for the exhaust.
We bought out a rather large number of Excursion exhaust systems from Magnaflow and have a few left at a smoking deal. These are their Premium systems with 436 stainless pipe and muffler, polished muffler case, polished 5" tip welded in place, and a lifetime warranty!
Give us a call, PM, or e-mail if you would like a price. JS.
AFE STAGE II. If he tows, the stage I is going to suck everything but enough air.
If he lives where they salt the roads, stainless exhaust. Otherwise aluminized is just fine.

I did a Tymar performance open intake and just replaced my oem muffler with a Walker BTM. I have been very happy with these two for over a year. My egt's are no problem and that's running hard with my other mods and even when I tow with my Edge Evo. in Race mode. I will eventually go with a Magnaflow full 4" system when I get the dough!

To some degree, it depends on what your father-in-law is going to do with the truck. If he's just looking to get a bit more out of the truck without spending too much (not looking to tow 10k and not looking for huge dyno numbers), I'd suggest the following:
Intake: I'm running an Airaid and I'm pretty happy with it. I had to buy "sock" for it to keep it cleaner - leaves and stuff kept building on it and the sock keeps it clean. If I were doing it over again, I'd take a look at what the aftermarket-like air intake from Ford. I think they call it "severe duty" or something. The dealer might be a little more open to warrenty claims with Ford's parts on there.
Exhaust: I'd take a close look at replacing the stock muffler with the Walker BTM (big truck muffler). I'm not speaking from personal experience here, but, I've been reading that it give you 80% of the EGT benefit of a complete aftermarket exhaust system for under $100.
Where's everyone buying the Walker BTM? Should I be able to get it at my local muffler shop or is it something I can order online and install myself (clamp on type)?
