Looking to buy an Excursion

We are thinking of getting rid of our diesel Suburban and getting an Excursion. As you can see from my sig I have and love my PSD F250. Are there any things I should look for in a used X? We will probably be getting one with around 50-60K. Looking for a Limited 4x4 hopefully with a TV. When were sunroofs available and is it only on a Limited? Can you get leather in one that is not a Limited? I have seen some posts about sway bars, do some not come with them and some do? Is the automatic climate control standard on the Limited? Is it reliable? Is production still going to stop in '04? sorry for all the ?'s but I know this is the place for answers.

No catalytic converter on the Powerstroke Excursions.

Hope this helps,

"When were sunroofs available and is it only on a Limited? Can you get leather in one that is not a Limited? I have seen some posts about sway bars, do some not come with them and some do? Is the automatic climate control standard on the Limited? Is it reliable?"

I will take a stab for ya,
I am assuming you are looking at a 2000-2001 from your mileage quote?

I have NO CLUE on the sunroofs, I have never seen one, BUT that would be cool.

Yes you can get leather in an XLT.

Sway bars were not on any 2000-2002. Aftermarket only. Ford started it as an option with the 2003.

No the Automatic climate control was not standard on the Limited.

Is it reliable? YES, but in the small print "like any thing you can get a bad one"! So check out the service record and car fax it.

Hope this helps ya

Re: Looking to buy an Excursion

In short, yes, haven't seen one, yes, yes, yes in 2002, yes so far, and unfortunately yes.

We just bought after looking for some time. I have seen XLT's with leather. Never seen the moonroof and don't know what would happen to the rear air and console controls. I think there was an upgrade to the limited package for 2002 ( climax control more buttons in the steering wheel than you can count, dual power heated seats, dimming mirror, seat memory) The 2002 we bought had these over a 2001 limited we also checked out. Your mileage may vary, but we found nice 2000 and 2001's but the 2002 seemed to have more 'stuff'. We weren't looking for the media center because we use portable equipment and move it into our camper upon arrival. Ford can't get rid of the big family towing machine altogether, they will probably introduce the Extrusion....
Good luck in seaching and don't jump on the first one you find. I love mine so far, but I'm coming from a 95 F250 and haven't made the first payment(of many) yet

Re: Looking to buy an Excursion

Thanks for the replys. I have seen a few newer ones with the sunroof, unsure of the year. I will be looking for a 2000-2001. I have noticed that the rear doors are fiberglass, I guess, do they tend to rattle or anything like that?

Re: Looking to buy an Excursion

NOPE no rattles, the light switch seams to get a mind of it own sometimes but a quick shot of WD-40 fixes that. Good luck on your search.

Re: Looking to buy an Excursion

When did the sunroof become an option? Was it only available on a limited? Does anyone that has one have any leaks?

Re: Looking to buy an Excursion

A sunroof has never been a factory option.

My 00 limited has the auto-dimming rear view mirror, does not have the automatic temperature controlled front heater/AC, or the radio controls on the steering wheel, or adjustable pedals, or memory seats. It does have CD and casette player in the dash, as well as 6 CD magazine in the center console, with rear controls that can select any of these sources as well as radio.

The ride and handling of the 4x4 6.0 liter PSD may well be improved by virtue of about 200 lb. less front end weight and probably the same front springs: D code 4,700 lb. rated at the ground.

Re: Looking to buy an Excursion

Thanks for the info. I have seen new 03 X's on the Ford lot with sunroofs and it is listed on the window sticker. Maybe it is just now an option with the 03. So with that rear audio control panel can someone with headphones in the rear listen to something other than the front stereo is playing for the rest of the passengers? I have seen that option and was curious how it worked. If the X had a TV would that be tied into those controls as well? Thanks.

Re: Looking to buy an Excursion

Yes, the rear passengers can listen to something different. As for it plugging into an Entertainment center, I would assume "Yes."

If you can get a good discount off of sticker and get the great financing rates available, it may be better for you to buy a new one. However, if you get a screaming deal on a used X PSD, then you can spend the money you saved on things like shocks, sway bar, chip, new intake, 4" exhaust, gauges, and many other toys. Re: Looking to buy an Excursion

I wish we could get a new one. Maybe around $45, the payment would be almost double what I can get a used one for. I have 4" exhaust on my F250 and I can hear it on the road. Is it loud on an Excursion being right below the floor?

Re: Looking to buy an Excursion

I have an 04 EB Excursion on order. A sunroof is not a factory option. It is an option on the crew cab superduty models. I don't know why you cannot order a sunroof on the X because I would have ordered one. I believe it would sell well. I guess we are lucky that we can still get them.
