I recently purchased an extremely nice '05 Ford Excursion Diesel 4X4 from a gent in Phoenix. This truck has been tricked out with a Pro-Comp custom 7" lift kit and sits on 37" BFG All Terrain tires. The vehicle only has 12,k miles and was used very sparingly in the Phoenix area. Looking at the suspension, everything looks brand new.
Here's the deal...I live in Illinois. I don't go off-road, (unless at the farm--3 hours away) and will be using this rig as my daily driver. I am looking to lower this vehicle back closer to stock.
I bought this in effort to consolidate 2 vehicles, (E350 SD PSD/VW Touareg) and will still schlep kids, but also tow a 24' trailer to the track, (road race). Thus, I will never use this suspension for its intended purpose. Plus, keeping a small step ladder in the back seat is a sure tip to my wife as to issues with the height! Besides the Excursion, it is my impression/understanding that this kit will also work on either a F-250 or F350 of comparable vintage with the leaf front end.
Here are my questions:
As I live in the Chicago area, can any of you provide me the name of a couple of trustworthy shops, (or guys who work from home) who would uninstall the springs, perches, etc?
Does anyone you know someone in this area looking to upgrade from a slightly lower lift to something like this?
I am looking to sell this for about 2/3's of what it cost new, which should get someone's attention. (Like I said, this is a ProComp kit with 4 springs, perches, links, etc.)
I am an enthusiast, as is my 16 YO son and we are not opposed to doing some off-roading or socializing. Winter is when we hibernate, but 4 wheeling is a 12 month activity! I just don't need the height.
I can email some pictures in the event that you know of anyone who might be interested. I am planning on trying to keep the remote Bilstein shocks if compatible with say, a 4" lift. Otherwise, I am looking to sell, trade, or swap the springs, perches, and tires. I am looking for a 3-4" quality kit, (like Pro-Comp) and some 35" tires.
Any help you can provide would be appreciated...also feel free to pass along my email to someone potentially better able to provide me direction. Thanks again to all who read this and take the initiative
