Lower radiator hose clamp failed for the second time

Just replaced the lower radiator hose on my 2001 PSD Excursion for the second time. First time it failed was last summer with 4,000 miles. My father was up from Florida when spring clamp broke. thought I would be able to remove the clamp and install a worm type clamp. However, the original Ford hose has the clamp riveted to the hose which makes it impossable to remove the broken clamp completely (there is enough room to double clamp the hose if needed). Since my Dad needed a vehicle for the weekend I went out and bought a factory hose and installed it. Last week the clamp failed again. Broke in the same place where the "rivet" passes through the clamp. This time I let Ford tow and repair the truck.

The first time the hose clamp broke, I checked with my local part stores for a replacement hose, everyone had a listing, none had it in stock. Out of four local Ford dealers only one had it in stock and the hose had arrived that day in their stock order. The second time it broke no one had the lower has and it had to be ordered.

Truck has just 5,500 miles on it.

Re: Lower radiator hose clamp failed for the second time

My lower clamp broke also. In my case the clamp was glued to the hose. The factory clamps were peeled from the hose, and screw clamps were installed. It's hard for me to believe they'd use a rivit. Amazing.

Mine broke too. I had to grind mine off very carefully and installed two screw clamps. Take that you bastard hose clamp!

Re: Lower radiator hose clamp failed for the second time

Same problem, except all the antifreeze poured out while driving. I got it towed and Ford fixed it. They weren't even going to look at the truck for like 3 days so I diagnosed the problem myself and forced them to do the fix right away.

I was thinking of replacing all other hose clamps like this kind with the old fashioned screw type clamp, where else are these cheap clamps on our trucks besides on the lower radiator hose?
