MagnaFlow Muffler

After Reading posts in the Pickup Forum it sounds like the MagnaFlow muffler replacement on the stock tubing is the answer for me. I am leaning toward the 20" long 4" diamer inlet/outlet stainless steel. I am worried about this "Drone" everyone talks about. My goal is to allow my truck to breath better but I don't care for the extra sound. I want to keep it simple (and cheap) with just a muffler replacement and no other mods to the exhaust. To you guys with MagnaFlows on the Excursions only, what is the sound like? Any drone (flutter) inside with windows up? Thanks.

Re: MagnaFlow Muffler

Cliff, I believe the drone is taken care of by a flex connector, http://www.epiflex.com/ and has little to do with the muffler, my 2000 x had the drone a lot worse with the stock exhuast then my 2002

Re: MagnaFlow Muffler

I don't know who makes it for ATS but I just ordered the Duramax 4" ATS stainless steel muffler, after talking with tech support from ATS. I want a full flow but quiet inside the cab muffler. It should be here friday and I already have my EPI flex connector ready to go.

Re: MagnaFlow Muffler

coldair,

Where did you get your ATS/Duramax muffler from? I too have been looking for a free flow w/o the cab noise. Let me know how yours turns out.

Re: MagnaFlow Muffler

I have a 20" Magnaflow and I cannot tell any difference in before or after the installation. ie, exhaust temp performance, reduction in drone. I had the drone before and still have it. I have added the epiflex pipe with no reduction in drone. The muffler works fine probably a little more rumble outside but none inside. The drone is definitely in the exhaust. Iam now considering a banks stainles upgrade to a 3 1/2" down pipe and 4" exhaust. I hope this helps.

Re: MagnaFlow Muffler

I just got back from a hard run with my 31' TT. I replaced the Walker/stock pipe configuration with a Jardine system. It's not stainless but is a 3 1/2" flared out to 4" down pipe to 4" back through a 4" Magnaflow muffler. I believe it dropped my EGT a little more, my flutter is gone, and didn't pick up any drone. It sounds low and mellow and not at all loud.
The issues I had with this kit is that I didn't specify that I have added a rear sway bar so that the crossover pipe should have been slightly longer to better clear the sway bar and the shock. Also the muffler didn't have a big enough pop out to accommodate the 4" pipe. I ended up going to a professional shop to finish my install.
I paid $425 plus freight for the kit that includes clamps, hangers, and a 5" chrome tip. I installed it and the next morning ran from Bakersfield CA to Las Vegas NV with the 31'er in tow. For those of you not familiar with the rout, there are some pretty steep grades along the way. I am thoroughly pleased with the performance of this exhaust and as a kit just needs alittle tweeking. I Talked with Matt of Pinnacle Performance at 1 800 934-3569 in Dubois Wy. Not sure how long the price will hold.
