Max lift without lengthening drivelines

Hi all, just finnished lifting my Excursion with a 6 inch procomp lift, and well to tell you the truth........It's not enough for me:-) I originally wasn't even going to lift this one, but after driving it for a couple months now I have come to realize I just have to have it bigger. So I lifted it 6" hoping that would be enough for me. But I used to have a 1992 GMC Suburban lifted 12 inches with 38" super swampers on it and it was great, so now even at 6" and 35" tires my excursion is not quite big enough for me.

So I am just curious to know if any of you know how high you can lift one before the drive lines need to be lengthened. Had to have them lengthened on my suburban when I lifted it that high, so I would imagine the same would be true for the excursion. I also expect to have to get longer brake lines and a longer adjustable track bar. Not that I'm a huge attention seeker, but when I had my big lifted suburban everyone would turn and stare anytime I would drive by, but my measly 6" lifted Excursion only gets a couple glances here and there Here is a pic of my suburban so you can see why it got a lot of attention. Belongs to a guy in Washington now. Suburban Me with suburban

And here is my Excursion. Although still pretty awesome, just not awesome enough for me...........yet. Excursion

So yeah, what I intend to do is since I allready have the procomp 6" lift, I would hate to have to take it all off, so I am now going to do a 6 inch hanger drop provided by Truckin Suspension ontop of the procomp lift giving me 12 total inches. That will be of course after I measure the headlights to make sure they will not be over the legal height limit of 54 inches when lifted that high. Go ahead and flame me all you want to I just love my big vehicles!

Re: Max lift without lengthening drivelines

Man, I would just leave it, get some cab lights, a thule rack and a front bar and you will "look" bigger. I like it now. I would have to say take a look at where you are now on the splines and figure an inch for an inch, which may be overkill, but it will be done right. I have 3 and would like to go to 4-5 but then I have really wacked the truck and I drive it 40,000 miles a year. I think 4 is next but it is a huge amount of work for 1". Looks good.

Re: Max lift without lengthening drivelines

I lifted mine the same as yours and got a bad vibration from 55-70 mph and really bad under load at those speeds. I called Jesse at High Angle Driveline and he set me up with a longer rear shaft. Problem solved...Donahoe Racing told me that anything over 4" your rear shaft is to short. Anything over 6" your front and obviously your rear is to short. I chose the Edge 6" kit with full 8" rear leafs and removed my rear blocks. I wanted to go 8" with 37's (I like the look of an open wheel well) but in order for it to still fit in the garage I couldn't go that big. It makes it by 1"+ now...Check out my pics.

Brent.
