Look under "caryt" "Pharmer" and my self and search by rear springs and these user names. We all did it a bit different but with similar results.
That is to say we got the results we wanted.

I originally used the middle (third from the bottom) and the second from the bottom leaf from the original G codes. It was more than I needed so I removed the second from the bottom and only have the one added leaf that must be shortened on one end. To shorten this leaf I cut it off at the plastic pad hole and drilled out the rivit hole from the bail or loop around the original G code to fit the plastic pad.

I did not use the F code variable rate bottom leaf but do have the original G code anti-wrap half leafs installed.

Modified F code might be a tad misleading:

What you do is disassembled the original g codes modify the mid leaf if you are using it and ADD one or more leafs to the new F code pack.

I think Pharmer used the bottom two leafs added to the F code and then the new variable rate but take a look at his pictures.

CaryT used B codes and I think the same set up he has pictures also.

I did some the original work on the V code swap in early 02 but these guys and others worked out the rears.

what are the f codes used in stock? how do they differ from b codes ? how is the ride with either?... Since I have the cummins swapped in my ex..I was debating going with a x code front spring instead of v codes, for the added weight.. the cummins only weight 1-200 lbs more then the 7.3. do you have the f code part #? If I go with a rear anti sway bar? I already know to upgrade to the 30mm bar..how do the Hellwig aftermarket bars differ from the ford bar?
Thanks
Deo

Shure
I am sure there are aftermarket solutions

As far as ford parts use F code add bottom two leafs from old X g codes

It is all bolt together

BTW Fs replaced the Bs they have similar specs but not the same

If you will do the searches all the information is right here on this site

F codes are used on 250s and possibly 350 SRW

I added last two leafs from Excursion spring pack to the F-codes. F-codes are from 05-06 SD without the lower helper spring. I did not use the Excursion anti-wrap add on. If you don't add to the F-codes it will ride worse because the Ex is heavier in the rear. You also need the extra leafs to maintain ride height in the rear relative to the front end. There are pictures in my sig.

I did this 2 years ago and it works great. Here is the link to the post where I describe the modified F code. F-code modifications-another way.
There are pictures in my gallery that show what I did too.

I only have experence with my modded B codes and they ride great and tow very well. I have helped many over the years do this mod and can get you instructions and pics, PM me with your email.

Since the price for a 30mm factory bar is so reasonable thats my choice.

Correct shock valving is a key factor in the ride comfort and handling...Bilsteins.

The perfect setup IMO is a 3" hanger kit V and B codes a 30mm bar and dual Bilsteins in front. The Ex needs wider rims..9" min with 12.5" wide tires to get a stable base under it. These mods will turn the unsafe handling EX into a canyon carving joy to drive.

I could not remember who used the middle leaf, thanks for the post.

Using the middle leaf you hav to do a little cutting and modding but it can be done.

My springs look like these Modified F code new leaf. - TheDieselStop.Com Photo Hosting

EXCEPT I have the anti-wrap and not the thick variable rate on the bottom.

As has been said if you don't add the leafs you will be on that variable rate all the time and the rear end will kick you in the tail.

I did not want to ever feel the varable rate so I did not use it.
I have had some very heavy loads on the back of the X and the one extra leaf is more than enough. If it is not; go slow you are way overloaded.

what do you estimate these modified springs weight rating to be?
