Do not know if this is the appropriate forum to posts this, so scold me if need be, I'm a quick learner.
You know how when you take your vehicle into a dealer the sign posted on the wall that says " THE DEALER IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ITEMS LEFT IN VEHICLE "
Does this mean that I am not responsible for items the dealer leaves in my truck ?
Seems when I picked my X up last week the 2001 shop manual (VOL I) was left in the passanger floor board.
Question I have is that there really is no love lost for this dealer,(had truck for 16 days to fix only 3 of the 6 things requested) would be nice to have half of the manual for my truck, problem I have is I don't want someones B_tt to be in a sling over it. Is this an item that the dealer ownes, or is it the property of one of it's techs? Will take it back if it has to come out of someones pocket.
Gary,
You don't want that sitting around reminding you of their lack of service. By returning it, you should be able to expect better service from them knowing you have lived up everything on your end.

My advice would be to head back to the dealer, ask to talk to the tech, and return the manual to him directly. After 26 years as a mechanic, I can tell you that you appreciate things like that. Besides you never know when you might need a favor from him. JS.
Thanks for the advice ADDITIVE and Jerry, I pretty much figured I should take it on back Monday. I searched some of the past post and found I could order a set, which I might do at a later time.
Returning it will give me a clear conscious and shows a can play a fair game. Besides after looking at the electrical systems section a little bit this morning, I don't think I'll be tearing underneath the dash any time soon.
When I used to work for a dealer, I had to
buy all my own tools and books. It is best
to return it. I would like to know which
dealer it is you have been using. I am next
door in Lawrenceville.

Gary, I think you're doing the right thing returning it. Things like this always seem to work out for the better in the long run.
I don't know if you would be interested, but I've seen the full set of shop manuals offered on CD on E-Bay for a cheap price. I got mine for 38 bucks. The only trouble is that it's a pain to drag that big computer under the truck with me!
Gary, if you really want the 2 Volume manual, then you can order it directly from Helm, Inc. But your cost is going to be somewhere in the $140 ballpark. Ford will probably charge you a little more...you know to cover their costs of playing middleman. Don't tell anybody I told you this, but Ford's cost for this manual is a mere $56. It's basically the vendor agreement they have setup with Helm. So, if you know somebody in parts, they might be able to get you a break on the price. Maybe a jobber discount or something....or if they're real nice....maybe the counter guy will give it to you for cost. Doubtful, but it's worth a shot. I made them throw mine in when I purchased the truck. They didn't even blink an eye. Likely because they knew it was only going to cost them $56.
