What is everyone's real world experience when putting 285's on the X regarding MPG. I've heard anywhere from no effect to losing about 1 or 2 MPG. I like the way the bigger tire fills the wheel well, but I'm not sure I like it so much at the expense of fuel milage with diesel where it is, and likely to go higher.
My other option is staying with a 265/75/16E tire. BTW, completely stock 7.3L with Rancho 9000's.
Thee's not that much difference in size, and, using a GPS my speedo is more accurate with 285's.
MPG is good also. I can get just over 20 on the HWY unloaded (not towing) and 13-14 towing 7500#.
I've got Revo's FYI. SOme tires may actually be slightly different in size. I'd consider 285's what they should have on them from the factory, well that and a slightly wider wheel.

Agree with FamilyRide, but am in awe of the 20MPG on the highway. Wish I could drive slow enough to do that.... My RPM's at highway cruising fell about 250. (Not according to the speedo, but using GPS.)
YTa, I should add that's running 60-65. When I didn that recently was driving to Houston on mostly back roads so it did include several small towns to slow down and stop in. But I kept running speeds to 60-65 and enjoyed the ride.

I have that size for the winter and 315/70/17 for summer and I see little to no difference. If you can keep it under 2000 rpm you can see some very good mileage. So far at 84K it is 14 towing, 16 city/daily and 19 highway empty. I like to reset it and let it coast down hill, I see 50mpg...until i use the pedal to keep moving.

1. anything necessary to calibrate the transmission or ABS system with larger tires?
2. what about the spare tire, keep the 265 or replace with a 285?
3. if I go with the 285's, and U or V codes and 4" blocks in the rear, will it still fit under a standard garage door (7')?
1. See my first post above.
2. Personal preference. If you plan on having a flat and will have to drive a long way, it would be good. Some have managed to get the spare tire cover to fit a 285. I didn't mess with it.
3. Standard? You mena you really think builders come close to a "standard"? Actually, any of those combinations "should" be fine.

I know what you mean, we are currently having a house built in Austin. It's been a long time since I've done that, what a pain!
Thanks for your responses, looks like 285 Revo's for me. $866, ouch!

My speedometer was about 3mph off from the factory on the highway. The 285's corrected it according to my GPS.
I have F350 4" blocks in the rear and X springs in the front and my truck fits in my parking garage which "claims" to have a limit of 6' 8". It fits in my home garage with about 4" to spare.

Wow! That's way too much. I went to tiresavings.com and got them for $715 delivered to my door. Tire Rack and others have similar prices. Total cost is usually a little cheaper from the supplier closest to you (shipping $).

Tirerack had them a little cheaper when I bought mine, but they don't deliver mounting and balancing.
Discount Tire ended up with a much better deal as they do mount and balance.
As I remember, everyone was backordered on them including Bridgestone/Firestone dealers and I ended up getting them from Discount for $600 flat including letting them have my 130 mile OEM's. Discount is now a Bridgestone dealer so they stock them.
Online tire buying has never worked out better for any tires I've tried to get, including trailer tires. They may be slightly less on the tire, but when you add in shipping, then hauling them to someone to mount and balance (and hopefully get some sort of service incentive like Discount does) they end up more than just buying them locally.
