Mud Guard Advice

I know this has been discussed before. I want to get molded mud guards for the Ex, Limited. Is Ford the best or aftermarket? Are they only available in Black or are they available in the "beige" that's on the lower cladding of the body? Where should I get them if they are Ford? Aftermarket?

Thanks!

Re: Mud Guard Advice

I went through the same thing and settled for the stock Ford molded flaps in black. I don't know if the aftermarket makes any colored ones but I have seen many of these flaps painted. I have some pics in my signature.

Re: Mud Guard Advice

There's also another thread right now on installing the Husky's. That's what I have and they fit pretty good and look good. I actually think they "hide" pretty well.

One thing about color matched gaurds, be careful. Color matched will stand out more and "complete" the color down past the fender. I was going to do them on my Expedition and luckily I saw one done that way. I was shocked at how down right ugly it was. It made it look like it had a cheap aftermarket ground effects kit!!

Black ones hide really well. I also thing gaurds are a must especially if you have anything close to an aggressive tread that pickles up rocks. They als do a fantastic job of keeping the truck cleaner keeping road film from nasty roads way down.

Re: Mud Guard Advice

I agree, I have the black Husky's on my Ltm.X and would not want color match.

Re: Mud Guard Advice

I have the Husky's. They were easy to install, fit great and I personally like the look over the Ford guards.

PS...... FMT your truck looks great. I thought I kept mine looking nice til I saw your pics. ( Looks like a mirror. NICE )

Re: Mud Guard Advice

Look at my pictures. These are from cabellas, I think they are husky, I can't remember. They installed easy and I have 60k on them with no problems ever. They fit the Limited mouldings exactly.

Re: Mud Guard Advice

Mitch, the Husky's, does the right rear mud flap come close to touching your exhaust tip?

I have been on the fence but was not sure if the right rear flap would touch my exhaust tip. I have a 3.5" Banks exhaust, 4" tip, that is built by Magnaflow.

Nice looking truck!!! Kindda looks familiar.

Thanks!!

Re: Mud Guard Advice

No, not even close. They are very rigid and do not fly back into it either. They have been great, not one single problem.

Re: Mud Guard Advice

How well do those husky flaps work with towing? I have a boat that alwasy gets extremely dirty after I drive through a small puddle or when the streets are a little wet. The husky flaps seem a little small. I have 35" BFG's with at 6" lift. Any advice? Thanks.

Re: Mud Guard Advice

They will help a little, like a puddle or a small wet patch but in the rain or a wet road most comes from water off the tires that swirls under the truck. They will keep rocks from hitting the boat and will keep mud and snow off the running boards. I find they reduce the water that would hit a trailer and keep mud off the sides. They will be small for a 35, mine are about 35s and they do cover the width pretty well. I would say they are better than nothing and about as big as you would want to go before they look stupid.
