Need advice removing seats

I've been sound deading my 2000 X. To make the job easier I want to remove the seats. After trying to loosen the torx fasteners I do not believe that it will be possible. Does some one like Sears make 1/2" impact torx sockets or is this a specialty item??? Anyone know off the top of their head what T size it is??
\
Thanks

Re: Need advice removing seats

Sears or any auto parts store will have one. It is a T55. It will be a little loose. A T60 is to big and a T55 is a little small. I do not think there is a T57 or anything in between. The one I have is tapered and I ground the tip down some to make it fit better. I would not use an impact on them myself but maybe a breaker bar if a ratchet won't do it. Good luck.

Re: Need advice removing seats

Sounds like a little spray lube from the bottom might be a good idea.

I just pulled a seat from my 05 and it came right out so sounds like you may have a little rust starting on the bolts.
Good luck

Re: Need advice removing seats

It is actually a "Torx Plus" 55, not a Torx 55. The Torx+ has rounded points on its star tips, while the torx has pointer star tips. The best price I found for an individual torx plus 55 was through Snap-On, as they were the only company that was willing to sell a single bit instead of a set. While a torx can work, you risk stripping the head because it does not fit well. If you have not already stripped the head, once you get a +, it will come out easily with a long wratchet.

Re: Need advice removing seats

Thanks for the clarification on the 55 plus.
Did a search http://www.mytoolstore.com/sk/sk03096.html

There's a difference between regular torx and plus size.

Re: Need advice removing seats

I always thought it looked a little wrong. I guess someone needed to make some $ again and came up with a new fastener head. What is really bad, the service manager at the dealership did not mention anything about a T55+ just a T55.
