I want to rewire and add a switch in for my map lights above the rear seats. what i would like to do is add a switch for each one up in the center console somewhere. i was thinking something that would cancel out and turn itself back off when the Acc. power is turned off (key). could someone help me identify the wires i need for these and tell me where they come down out of the roof?
next is a circuit that would unlatch a relay once power was lost. could someone explain to me how to wire that?
we get tired of stretching to turn them on for the kids and keep forgetting they are on when we get the kids out of their seats. this would be a great addition
Thanks in advance
Todd

Well there are two types of relays from what I understand. Those that are normally closed and "open" (shut off) when you apply power, and those that are normally open, and "close" (turn on) when you apply power. I'm not an expert in electrical by any means, but I believe that you are looking for the first type. If you wired it so that it was energized by a key'd on power source, it would turn itself off when you shut the engine off. (there are guys on the 7.3 forum that can explain it much better than I can)
In terms of the map light wiring, I've never checked where it's run but in most cars that I've worked on it's run up one of the A-pillars, or possibly a B-Pillar.
Here are the instructions for removing the center console from the roof, possibly they will help.
anyone know how to build a circuit for this? i was thinking mometary switches with relays fed from the ignition source. wire this in front of the switches that are on the ceiling now. that way they would still operate normally?
thanks,
Todd
