Need help with Excursion Electrical Problem

Hi all,
I have been having a problem with my X since I bought it used in Dec 2003. I am on my 4th set of Batteries and my 4th alternator. It has gotten worse recently. Last week I replaced the batteries and the alternator and Saturday night I went to go to dinner and it was dead. I replaced the batteries on Sunday and drove it home which was about 80 miles. By the time I turned into my subdivision half of the factory guages went dead and by the time I pulled into the driveway all of them were dead. I checked the batteries with a voltmeter and they were showing only 9.8 volts. As a side note when I took the alternator in last week it showed 15 volts but I talked them into swapping it anyway and it worked when I replaced the old one. It seems that for some reason the batteries are not being charged at all when the vehicle is running. I have also cleaned the battery terminals. Any ideas? What else could be causing this?

Thanks
Mike

Re: Need help with Excursion Electrical Problem

Cables could be shot somewhere other than the ends, or you could have a bad ground issue. I've been looking at my cables and think they are about done. There can be corrosion inside the cable covers that you can't see-

That is a LOT of voltage to pi$$ away in a short amount of time. you can get an induction test light that lights up when power is moving through the wires when you hold the test light next to it. Otherwise you better find a good electrician.
