Time to change shocks, bilstein or rancho 2wd stock hight any help on ride with each would be a very big help.
Heya Norm,
I'll chime in with the Rancho 9000X shocks, they're the manual 9 position shocks.
We've had em on the Excursion for going on 2 years now without any issues in tow or cruising unloaded on the freeway.
I think we got the set of four at 4 Wheel parts for like $260 out the door.
Samsoffroad.com has em for close the same price.

Thank you, Bill & Jeff for the help i'll look in to both pair. I see you both have the rear sway bar also (hellwig) it makes a big diference. I ordered it the next day after i brought the X home. Once again thank you to both of you for the help.

They're both very good shocks but it's to the owners taste in the end run.
Anytime you have questions, rants or raves post em anytime here in the Excursion slot

If you don't go with the Ranchos 9000's, I'd suggest KYB shocks. I have them on my 4x2 and love them. Plus, you can get them dirt cheap at Summit Racing. I think the fronts were something like $30 apiece, and the rears were $40 apiece...or vice versa.
Total shock change for $140 plus shipping...with a lifetime warranty. Can't beat that!
I went a different route than some of the other guys. I had Rancho's on my '79 Bronco for years and they were great for off-roading and I know some people who swear by Bilstiens as the ultimate affordable off-road type shock. For my X, I bought Edelbrock AIS shocks. (red with black boots) These seem to work great for me and what I do. In the street, when towing, they ride real smooth; off-roading they behave very well, not too stiff. When the time comes, I will buy them again. By the way my X is not lifted either. I guess like any other upgrade or change, it just depends on what you are going to do with your truck.
Good luck!
