Since I have just recently crossed this bridge, let me share my findings. My 2001 Excursion came with Power/Heated Trailer Tow mirrors. At the time of purchase, I did have the option to get the smaller (Aero) mirrors with turn signals, but opted for the larger mirrors.
Anyway, since I'm not very fond of the way the TT mirrors look......and I don't tow that often, I ended up buying a pair of the smaller (Aero) mirrors from a member of this forum. They are from his 2003 Excursion and are heated, power as well as have the turn-signal LED's in the glass. I was hoping they would be a plug and play install, but no dice. Different connectors. The earlier trucks (like my 2001)had two connectors for each mirror..that is if you had the heated mirror option. If you didn't have that option, you may only have one connector. On my Ex, there is a round white colored connector for the power mirror functions....and another square black connector for the heated mirror option. The newer mirrors are all coming with one large gray rectangle shaped connector. The good news....Ford sells an adapter harness for just this purpose. The harness has two connectors on one end that will plug into your truck...and one larger gray connector on the other that goes to the mirror.
Part numbers as follows;
Driver's Side 1C3Z-14A411-AA $10.95 (list price)
Pass. Side 1C3Z-14A411-BA $9.97 (list price)
For what it's worth, I did not have to run any additional wires in my '01 Excursion for the turn signal function. they were already there.
Do you still have your TT mirrors??? I am looking for a pair for my wifes 01 X. I can not see anything when towing the RV with the small mirrors. Shoot me a PM or email llcustom@netmdc.com
There really isn't any difference between the DS and PS adapter, except for the wiring colors. Maybe the price difference has something to do with how many of each item are sold. I don't know??
The turn signal wires are in the round white plug on my Excursion. It's a White w/Blue tracer wire on the pass side..and a Light Green w/White tracer wire on the driver's side.
I don't think I am going to sell my TT mirrors. I do tow, but not that often. My plan is to swap them out when I take road trips that involve towing. And that's the whole reason I bought the adapters from Ford....so I wouldn't have to cut any wires and my old mirrors could be easily reinstalled.
Sound like a plan,
Just thought I would ask!!!! It never hurts, well sometimes !
Whoooaa. Stop the presses. I just got my adapters from Ford and although they will fit just fine, they do not include the wire for the turn signal. Went 'round and 'round with the part guys and he could not find another adapter that would work. So what I am doing is buying one extra adapter, and just using a couple of wires from it, to fill in the missing wire. If interested, here are pictures of the harness that I got from ford. Drivers Side Harness Passenger Side Harness
If interested, I'll post some more pictures when I get the mising wires added. I could have just done the job with a couple of crimp on connectors, but I don't want to cut anything, and I want to be able to swap these mirrors back and forth without any trouble. Beside, the extra $8.50(with my 15% off) isn't going to kill me. I hope I didn't steer anybody wrong with those part numbers. They will work, but if your mirros have the turn signal element, you will have to add one wire to each harness.

Sorry, but I already did the job and installed them last night before you posted your inquiry for more pics. Wish I could turn back time.....because I put three nice scratches/gouges in my passenger side door while doing it. YIKES!! I was in too much of a hurry and my mirror fell out which allowed the threaded studs to scratch my paint down to bare metal!
Anyway the harness mod was really easy. Like I said before, I just bought a third adapter harness(got the cheaper one), then just disassembled this extra harness so I could use two of its wires to add a missing turn signal wire to the driver side and pass side harnesses. The missing wire goes in the middle opening of the gray connector and in the only open slot on the sqaure white connector.
Disassembly of the harness consists of removing the red locking plug(s) inside of each connector(push them out from the backside (wire side) of the connector using a precision screw driver). Then hold the little pin keeper tabs back (inside the pin end of the connector) with a precision screwdriver, while removing the individual wire(s). Insert missing wire into each harness, and reinsert the red plug(s) to lock them in place. Piece of cake. Works great. Just wish I didn't scrath my door. Now I have yet another project....to fix my paint!
I have some pics of mine installed and painted. Check my pics below. I have not wired the heating and turn signals yet though. Just waiting on some switches.

'Ultimate' headlights . . . coming soon
Very good instructions and nice clean work-around the missing turnsignal pins.
On my 2000, expect I will have to bring turn signal wires into the door from under the dash.
The pictures show different suffixes on the bag for the Y adapters than what you have in your earlier posting:
1C3Z-14A411-BA left hand (driver side)
1C3Z-14A411-AA right hand (passenger side)
Sorry to hear about the paint scratch.

Yeah, you're right, I just had the driver's side and passenger side numbers mixed up. Doesn't really matter though, since either one will work on either side. If I was going to do this project again, I'd order three of the cheaper ones. Only difference, besides price, is the wire colors..so no biggie.
Decided to fix the scrathes myself and the touch-up paint on it's way from Ford at this moment. I'm hoping to take my time and layer the touch up paint to build up the scratched/gouged areas. Got 'em waxed up real good right now so they don't start to rust before I can begin the painting.
Cheers,
