I am going to get the wife's new Excursion today. It is a loaded 6.0 Eddie Bauer like her 04. I decided to get her a new one even though the old one was just 2 years old with 30k. I never lifted her old one. I want to lift this one with the best quality lift I can. I want to keep the lift to the smallest amout possible that will allow me to use 315's on it. The vehicle will be used off road on occasion so the lift must actually be safe with full articulation. most of the time it will be used as the mama bus. I should really paint it yellow.
Donahoe is a really good suspension lift. But dont count out others. Mine has a 5" Superlift and is really great. The ride is perfect and the stance is really mean. It was easy to put on and the springs aren't the 4-5 spring pack kind like you'll find with Procomp or Fabtech. These are the 10 leaf style that really make a differnce with ride quality and are half the price of a DR kit.
You will need 3", I have this size tire and 3"s of lift, I used F350 springs and a 1.5 add a leaf or you could buy X code springs, I used a 4" block in the rear with air bags. It really makes it an F350 X.

Motionman how do you like the ride? Do you ever take it off road? Did you use the overload springs? I do like the way my F350 rides with 315's. Anyone have experience with Skyjacker springs on an X? Thanks!
The ride is fine, it is a real heavy duty suspention now so it is not going to be super smooth. I did not change the rear so I do have the OL spring, plus air bags. I take it down two tracks that can be a little challenge and it really helps there, I also let the tires down to 20, then it smooths out the ruts nicely, then air up with the air bag pump. I just had 7 guys in it running dirt roads and two tracks and they all thought it was a solid and smooth ride. The bilstein shocks help a ton, they handle the rough very well and are smooth on pavement.

I have the DR 3" hanger with a 325/60/18 slight rub but this tire is a 33x13.50 If I had to do it all over again I would not use the stock leafs on the front of the EX. Get U or V code front springs from a superduty. The front springs on the EX are to soft. I now have a set of U codes waiting to go in with a bigger block fo the back.
Just my 2 cents.

I just took delivery of a 05 Excursion, Eddie Bauer. It went straight to superdutyheadquarters.com and was placed on steriods . They installed a 8 in Donohue Racing suspension. I also put 20 X 10 rims with 37 inch Nitto Mud Grapplers. I also upgraded with steering stabilizers and the drive shaft upgrade. I am very happy with the lift. Donohue Racing "guarantees" better than stock ride. I wouldn't say its better than stock at low speed street driving, but it's pretty darn nice. At highway speeds it is great. I haven't went offroading yet. I would steer people away from the Nitto's. They are loud and not the best choice. If a mud tire is what your looking for, I would opt for the toyo's, based on reputation. I am looking to trade back (Discount tire is great) and possibly try some Mickey Thompson ATX 38's.
Here's my understanding 4" lift fits 35's, 6" 37"s, 8" 38's. Superdutyheadquarters really has ford products dialed in.
p.s. First night out on the town with wife wearing a miniskirt made every penny spent worthwhile

I am new to all of this...I just picked up my new to me 2004 Excursion EB 4X4 PSD a few weeks ago and was hoping for your input...
I too have 325/60/18 tires and right now the tire rub is nasty. I have the DR 3" Lift Spring Hanger Kit, 5" Blocks, DR Front & Rear Shocks and the adjustable Pan Rod Bar on order to be installed on Nov.7th at SDHQ. I also have Firestone airbags, Hellwig rear anti-sway bar and Landyot GEN-1 Radius Rods (already trimmed for a 3" lift)on order and intransit.
I want to try to eliminate the tire rub entirely. Since you have a "slight rub" do you think the stiffer front springs with the 3" DR lift will eliminate the rub? Which springs would you go with and how much bigger blocks in the rear are needed to compensate for the springs?
U codes in the front would give about another 1" up front so you would need a 1" bigger block in the back and B code springs.

I have V code springs in the front with 35 12.5 17s and stock rear. The truck sits very slightly nose down front to rear. The fit fine with no rubbing other than my front springs at full lock. I think I only even get that rubbing because my tires have a tall shoulder and my rims are 8.5 width. I think if I did 9" width the offset would have been fine. My pop has the same setup on his F250 only with the 9" rims and he has no problems what so ever.
My truck still fits everywhere, even in some old down town denver garages. I did the 3" donahoe and while I LOVE their products it put my old F250 just over the edge of fitting into some places.

I'd like to put a small lift on mine. No more than 1 - 2 inches. Anymore than that and it won't fit in the garage
