New Ex

Well I broke down yesterday and became the new owner of an 03 Excursion with the 6.0. I have tried to pay attention to some of the issues that these have been having but since I have a horrible memory caould you guys chime in on some of the issues that the vehicles have been having. Any help is greatly appreciated. Oh and who out there has done head studs on their 6.0 Ex. I am already looking at doing them but if I remember right the engine has to come out or the body has to be lifted up. Any advice on this one is also appreciated.
Thanks

Re: New Ex

Ok I guess my first post for the Excursion was a dud. Anybody have any input? I tried to search and I can't seem to find what I am looking for.

Re: New Ex

For your specific engine question you may get better results in one of the other areas. I am not familiar with the head bolt issue but the engine should still be under warranty and be Fords problem. Try Engine and Drivetrain maybe. As for the rest of your EX, congrats. I would suggest front spring replacement if a 4x4, rear lift gate struts off a 4x2, rear swaybar if you don't already have one.

If your are going to flog that engine, at least you know how to communicate the results. With powdered metal rods that will explode at 400 horsepower, I think you are wasting your money and time pulling the engine to install studs. Just a moderate tune up will give you enough power without destroying the reliability of the engine and tranny.
Unless you have $15k you feel is causing spring breakup in your wallet.
Just my arrogant opinion, bought and paid for the hard way.

Re: New Ex

Can't say anything about the studs, but here are some issues I dealt with:

I have a 2003 ex PSD (6.0l)

1. Clogged injectors ( I have 100K on my engine). Fixed by dealer
2. New shocks (installed Rancho 9000's)
3. SHake rattle and roll. Not fixed yet, but after reading several posts, everything points to a frame bolt being loose under the carpet on drivers side.
4. Vibration in the rear when exceeding 64mph. Have no idea what that is yet.

Hope this helps.
