After passively watching this site over the last year or two and absorbing all its information my wife and I purchased a white 2000 Excursion PSD 4x4 (3.73 LS) Limited with charcoal seats and all the options. Initial mileage is as follows: 16.3 mpg (as per the trip computer) and calculated mileage at 15.24 mpg. The calculated number might be off a little as I believe I got more fuel into the tank than the dealership did. After the last fill-up I drove 130 miles and the needle only went one needle width below the Full mark. Gotta love that huge tank! I'll post more mileage figures to add to the database to include towing numbers at a later date.
Initial impressions thus far are that this thing is a serious machine.

Congradulations on your new Excursion PSD! I recently ordered/received one just like yours (00 Limited white all options except AT tires). So far we are getting 16MPG(doing the math) that was on the first and second tanks, mostly at 75-85 MPH cruisa w/700# load. No cackle or knock, brake pull(right) seems to have gone away at 2300 miles. We made our yearly trip from N. CA. to Vegas, it was the most comfortable yet. My build date was 05-31-00, what is yours? Good Luck!
I've had my truck since March 10. My mileage is about the same as what you've posted, except, I have been able to record 20mpg when keeping it under 2000 rpm's on long highway trips. Around town averages about 16.5 mpg. I have about 9200 miles on it now.
Good Luck,
Ben

Forgot to mention that the driving was a mix of city and highway. On the highway speeds ranged from 55-65. Mileage is less than 500 so far. Still breaking it in. I'll have to check on the build date.

We were out today looking over a 5 acre parcel of land we are considering. It was wet, rough, unimproved ground so we ended up lugging around in low range 4-wheel drive. This was my first opportunity to really test the traction. I was very pleased. The weight of the Excursion, the limited slip, ground clearance and 4x4 made for a great experience. The only trouble was finding enough room to turn around. I do most of my 4 wheeling in a '91 Toyota 4Runner that is easy to maneuver just about anywhere. The Excursion is definitly not made for tight spots.
My Estate green, gray leather seats 4X4,PSD,limited,loaded, was born 01-19-00. I have 13000 miles on it and its been averaging 18.1 to 18.5 depending on who fills the tank.. Love the machine. Curt
Just purchased my Excursion. Did pretty well on the price, during this new sale going on. Just wanted to say hello and join your group.
I can't believe how bad I feel about not getting four wheel drive. I got rid of my 300ZX and miss it. It's time to grow up and I have kids, quite a litter I must say. Anyway, I have absolutely no need for the 4X4 but as I sit here typing I wish I had gone with it. My wife says I don't really have a valid reason for the 4X4 other than looks, power, testosterone, three more inches, ect... Still I feel I made a mistake. I'm sure I can't trade it in with out a major loss and that wouldn't be worth it as I only have 148 miles on it. I got this vehicle for the family. I have to remember that. Maybe this is just post purchase depression in disguise, I usually get it after a large purchase.
Thanks for letting me vent. I feel better, somewhat.

Welcome to Ford-Diesel.Com and Congrats on your new Excursion!
I'm gonna bet over time you will be content without the 4-wheel drive. It cost you less, it weighs less (more mpg?), and rides a little better.
I am in the Ozark Mountains and most winters need 4-wheel drive. The past 2 or 3 winters have been pretty mild.
It's a great ride and especially nice for the family. You mentioned a "litter" of kids . . . I have 6 myself so we fill up the Excursion perfectly - no wasted space!
Even with 1 child you can still find plenty of ways to fill the X. The really nice thing about these wagons is the versatility that comes with the power and comfort. Despite some occasional well founded carping, these are amazing vehicles. There is nothing else out there that is even a close comparable.

Latest update. Mileage was calculated at 17 mpg on last fill up. Okay, I only put in 8.9 gallons, but I was itching to see what the latest mileage was. Motor only has 500 miles on it now. Its nice to have a 4 door rig that has almost 100 more cubic inches of motor than my Bronco, weighs 1 ton more yet gets better mileage and tows better.
LSU, that 4x4 thing is a mysterious force (testosterone I'm sure) in us all. My last three vehicles have all been 4x4 (95 E/B Bronco, 90 Eagle Turbo Talon, and now the Excursion) and I live in San Diego! I realistically don't need it, but the times I have used it I've been very grateful. I guess I consider it a survival tool. Rarely used, but nice to have.

LSU_FAN, I know what you are going through. I agonized over the 4x4 vs. 4x2 choice. I finally ordered a 4x2. They a week later I went in and change the order to a 4x4. That meant cancelling the first order, and starting over. Then after another agonizing week I called and switched back. I just had too many compelling reasons to buy the 4x2. So far, no regrets.
Thank yall for all the replies. I thought I might give you an update. Well I kicked it around awhile and decided to see what it would take to trade for the 4x4. The dealer was quite happy to see me, go figure. He offered me 33k. Would take 7k to make the swap. I was willing to pay about a 4-5k just for being stupid about changing my mind but 7 was too much. I smiled and walked away. I am much happier with my choice now.
Took it to Shreveport at 18.1 mpg. I also had my first fill up. I was next to a fella in a little Suburban. Watched him pay 11 bucks more for less fuel.
