New goodies- my take...oh and what David Lott said about my Ex

Today and yesterday I added /changed 3 items on my Ex. Thought ya'll might like my take on them in case you're considering the same things.

1. New tires - Nitto Terra Grapplers 295-75-r16
Love them! I had BFG T/A KO's in the same size before. The Nittos are a little louder over 55, but not much at all. The Nittos seem more stable, IOW I can take corners faster with less perceived body roll. They balanced great and are smoooth. For the $200+ I saved over the BFGs, I'd go with the Nittos 10 out of 10 times.

2. High Pressure Crossover hose
Truck starts quicker/easier. It definately runs smoother at about 1500 rpms (45-55mph) and 2000rpms and above (70mph). It seems to be a teeny tiny bit quieter and smoother at idle. But its a small enough difference that I almost wonder if its just my imagination. Too early to tell if mileage went up at all. Bad thing is, there seems to be a vibration in the 1600-1900 rpm range. I'm sure its the engine. I can feel it in the pedal and hear it. Its very slight, but its definately there. Would I do it again? ahh...I could take it or leave it honestly.

3. Sonnax Tricumulator
WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG!? Man what a difference this thing makes!! Shifts are now quick but smooth. I was worried that they would be harsh, like putting in a shift kit in my old chevy. Nothing of the sort. They're just perfect. No more hanging between gears. It just SHIFTS plain and simple. Highly recommend!

OK, so I had my Ex at Diesel Innovation today for these and other things. First off, let me say THANKS to them. What a class act that company is. They go all out to make you happy and make sure you'll come back. And they're a fun bunch of guys to hang out with too. Well David Lott drove my Ex back from the garage to the store. When he got back he said, and I quote "What kind of program do you have in that truck? That thing runs GOOD." Coming from him, that felt great to hear! Now I'm ready to go out and pick a race! I've been looking at the Nitto 295-75-16s too. What rim are you running them on, the stock set? I'd like to keep my stock aluminum rims if I can.

Yep, I'm running stock rims. They fit and look great. No bulge at the top. And they should fit fine on yours with the modified springs.

I hate my shifting, if I wanted my father's Oldsmobile...

It's for the 4spd E4OD/R100, not the Torqshift.

Good to hear. I definately need some bigger meats to fill up the fenderwells now that the new springs are on. I also like the thought of dropping a few rpms at cruising speed on the highway too. My first choice would have been a 275/85-16 however, you can't find them like you could back 15 years ago.

Semper,
Ty

Re: New goodies- my take...oh and what David Lott said about my Ex

I had the Toyo Open Country A/T in a 295/75/16, which is basically the same tire since Toyo make the Nitto. The tires had good traction & were pretty smooth but wore out very fast, I only got about 25,000 miles out of them & I rotated them every 5,000 miles, I Would not buy another set.

I was worried about that. I figure that's where the $200+ I didn't spend went to. But considering that I only put 10k miles on mine last year, I don't think it will an issue for me.

Re: New goodies- my take...oh and what David Lott said about my Ex

Got 80K miles out of a set of BFG 295/75/16's, they were on the F250 mostly but spent about 10K miles under the Excursion which was a perfect fitment (with 16x8 rims). Second set two blow outs prior to 40K miles and the other two have 70K miles on them.

First set was $850 second set was $820.

Let's do it big boy! I'm sure we can find a nice track in Tomball where we can take multiple passes. We're set up pretty close to the same. I'd like to run against you with your chip in each of the settings. Maybe that will give me an idea what is in mine!
