Ok ya'll...I looked at a 2000 Limited PSD EX 4X4 this evening. Mint condition with 98K on the clock. They are asking $20,900.00. Is this a good price? and if it was sitting in front of you what would you check, look at etc to be sure it is something you would buy? I was fortunate that it just came in from trade and hadnt been "cleaned up" by the dealer yet. It doesnt have a scratch on it...absolutely beautiful truck. The leather inside looks brand new and I was amazed at the carpet because I couldnt find a spot on it anywhere!It is toreador red and tan on the bottom. Had the usual oil/dust crap on the motor and intercooler plumbing. I reached inside the intake tube and not a spec of dirt...spotless...I looked at the turbo fins and not a nic...I think it was probably an older person with no kids..like I said...spotless.. My only thing is the 4X4.. I would rather not have it 'cause I feel it is only more crap to break...and what about these shift on the fly systems and the 4x4 hubs? I have only heard bad about them...my wife will be driving this rig and so with everything I have said...would you pay this much and would you put your wife in it??? and again..what would you check?

I have never had a problem with the 4x4 on mine. Just squirt some silicone into the gap around the hub where it turns in and out.
That engine year has good rods in it!
Look at the amount of spring sag in the front end. How much distance is there between the top of the spring tie down/shock attach bracket and the bottom of the bump stop? New would be about 3". Mine had 3/8" after 2 years.
Also, the head lights on the 2000 model sucked. I replaced mine with APC aftermarkets and it is much better.
Pull up the reports to make sure it hasn't been wrecked or submerged before you commit to it, and like any other excursion, plan on a trip to transmission replacement land.
Lastly, check the seat heater on the driver's side and make sure it heats up.

If there's no manitenance/repair records you're gonna want to have the tranny & brakes(incuding rotors)checked out.
$20k is less than half the price of a new one and it sounds like a very clean rig from your description,start out low and show em you mean business and perhaps they'll work with ya [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

thanks to all for the info...I did look at the front springs and they looked like they were straight and had no arch left in them..I just replaced the rears on my dually for about 250.00, is this close to new springs for the front on an EX? Are you talking about a "carfax" report? if it had ever been wrecked or submerged I cannot tell...I looked everywhere for overspray etc and could find nothing..as far as the tranny I figured I would get a new T/C and shift kit etc..
anything else you guys can think of?

The last line of your signature tells me that all you need to do is exactly what he tells you. That will be your best decision on the purchase! That's how I got mine 5 years ago.
Yes, Carfax or one of the other ones. That report should tell you if there has been damage or if it's been totalled and rebuilt.
I have an enormous lift on mine and my springs were something in the ballpark of $500. If you intend to keep it stock height (good idea) then look into "V" code springs from ford. If the springs are banging against the bump stop every time you change lanes and hit the lane warts, you are going to be unhappy.
Good gas shocks are a must also...

Tom the front springs won't have much of an arch and the bottom of the front spring packs should be basically riding on the bump stops which Ford states is within spec.
If you want some new springs I'd go for the New Take-off route personally as you'll spend close to nothing for em,I got my V set from BadSuperDuty for free as they were taking up space in his garage.

Barrett,my wife used to work at a Mustang shop out in California in the early 90's and all she did was put a UPS shipping label on the leaf springs and ship em',not sure if UPS or DHL requires to have them strapped to a pallet nowadays due to the weight and size.

We're gettin a new truck, we're gettin a new truck, we're gettin a new truck!!!!!!!!!!YEE HAAAA.. I had to haggle a little because they only wanted to finance for 3.5 years and so I got another $1400.00 knocked of the price and am getting this ex for $19500.00. We're gonna drive down to get it in the AM..I AM SOOOO STOKED!!!! lol.. Ive only wanted one of those rigs for about 4 years.!
