New Member No Excursion Yet

Just want to say that I'm getting very near buying a new 6.0 Excursion. I have spent many (ask the wife) hours scouring this excellent forum. I was dead set against a 6.0 for rebate reasons early, but now I'm 90% sure I will go with the 6.0. I understand growing pains and working the bugs out, as I've seen it many times being an aircraft mechanic, but I also feel confident they will get it right eventually. On aircraft these intitial "problems" usually ending up being the best systems because of all the scrutiny they were under in the beginning. I just wanted to get on the forum early so that I don't get in trouble for posting later if things start going wrong. I'm a GM guy at heart, but I still feel Ford builds the best "trucks" Excursion being a "truck" in my book, Suburban being an SUV. I never was a diesel type until I got my TDI, now 45 MPG and 100k later I can't imagine going back to 10-14 MPG for more expensive gas and less power in a Suburban.
Thanks to all the people in this forum that post good solid info for people like myself to base their decisions on.

Re: New Member No Excursion Yet

Now for a few questions....
I've searched the Ford web site, but cannot find any 6.0 warranty info, they only list 7.3 in their brochure. Is there indeed a 5/100,000 warranty on the 6.0?
They do not list the tow ratings for the 6.0 are they the same for the 6.0 as the 7.3? I know I don't have to worry about exceeding them with my trailer but I'm just wondering.
And in regards to lifting the X, does anyone have any info on how high for what size tires will fit without rub? ie 4" for 35" tires?
Okay one more...does the 2003 come with the updated front springs, rear sway bar, and better shocks to improve the handling? They have on the build sheet that they went to LST shocks for improved ride and handling, but what about the other 2?
Thanks in advance for the help.

The first one is "absolutely yes it still has 5/100K on the engine" and the second one is "I am fairly certain they didn't change any of the ratings when going to the 6.0, as the truck is what limits those ratings" (though to be honest I think someone notice a 100 pound rating difference or something buried in some chart...)

Welcome to the board!!

They 6.0 X will not have updated from springs. I can't comment on the new shocks. I don't believe it comes with a rear sway bar either, but I'm not 100% sure.

Looks to me like the towing is the same, but I haven't been able to find anything concrete yet.

Regards,
Dave

Re: New Member No Excursion Yet

Nice looking X Yellowman. That looks about the right height that I'll be shooting for. Right now my Burb has a 6" pro-comp with 35's. The height is perfect, but I get tire rub in hard turns into and out of driveways. The backs only rub when really getting into the hills hard down at the dunes in Pismo. Any sort of rubs like that with 4" and 35's on the X?

Can anyone with an 03 X confirm if it comes with a factory rear sway bar?

Re: New Member No Excursion Yet

the front valance was trimmed to accommodate the tires, added a larger steering sbilizer/dampner, otherwise no problems with turning.

Re: New Member No Excursion Yet

Well the X is here, will be picking it up Sat morning. From the sounds of it looks like I'll be trying to get some front springs out of the dealer. What exactly is the problem with the stock springs, they compress to easily, bottom out?
So far so good with the motor, it made it from Auburn to San Jose
Know anybody that wants a Suburban?

Re: New Member No Excursion Yet

It has arrived. Wife couldnt wait so we picked the new X up on Friday night. Wow was I pleasantly suprised with the engine. I bought the 6.0 having never drove or even heard it. Just read lots about it here. This 6.0 is awesome, and the tranny is sweet too. I can't believe the power difference between the 7.3 and 6.0 or even the V-10. The 6.0 is by far more powerful, and way quieter than the 7.3. Anyway here it is Tuesday night 4 nights after we picked it up and I just got done installing the hellwig sway bar and the billet grille. Got both of them from Summit, ordered on-line Monday morning and they arrived here today (tuesday) at noon. Wow! way to go Summit. !!!!!
Next I'll be watching these tires real close for wearing out, cause thats when the X will be getting a bit of a lift.
So far so good....watching that oil level real close.

Good to hear you're happy!

What tires do you have on it? If they're the firestones you'll be waiting a LOOOOOOOOONNNNNNGGG time for them to wear out!

Have a good one,
Dave
