new to psd, fuel filter question???

This is my first experience with the PSD and am enjoying it so far. I was wondering if anyone knows anything abour the Racor fuel filters? I have found that they are a lot cheaper than the Fleetgaurds and Motorcrafts. I am wondering if this is a case of "you get what you pay for".

Re: new to psd, fuel filter question???

the Racor ones that DIS sells (a sponsor of this site) are the same as the OEM ones Ford will sell you, just cheaper. the air filters DIS sells even come in a Ford box, just cheaper.

added on edit: and welcome to the site. plenty of good information here, if you search the forums and archives, or ask.

I ordered my fuel filter from DIS a while ago.. I was afraid of replacing the filter you know the old air in the fuel diesel stories. Also the filter looked complex and the “O” rings etc. Well 2 weeks ago I followed the direction on this forum. I used on of those craftsman’s rubber wrenches. I also placed paper towels around the filter put on rubber gloves and went to work. What a piece of cake and literally no mess. Only one thing to think about!! Have a place for the old filter!!!

Re: new to psd, fuel filter question???

Although I haven't deployed it, recommendations from the site say to go to your local auto parts store and buy about three feet of 5/16" (I think that's right) fuel line. Then, put the truck up on a lift and find the fuel/water drain port (not the valve control, but the actual "get fuel in yer face" output). Shove the fuel line onto there, and ziptie it to whatever is convenient until the fuel line is easily accessible.

Then save your bottles from your Stanadyne/Power Service/etc. fuel additive (or other vice...), and drain your fuel/water separator into the bottle, rather than all over the planet. I (and probably others) carry an empty bottle in my truck, so if I ever get Water In Fuel, I can drain it easily.

I'll be doing another oil change soon, and will take photos of the location when I mount my own fuel line up there.

Re: new to psd, fuel filter question???

Thanks to all, I am ordering a 5-pack of the Racors from DIS along with a couple of other things.

I luckily have a mentor when it comes to the PSD, I have a very close friend that has a 97F-250CC PSD and will be doing a lot of my services (especially the first couple) at his garage.

I also appreciate the helpful hints.

I did this several months ago and it works like a champ.

Re: new to psd, fuel filter question???

I also have a large (1Gal) zip lock bag to put
the old fuel filter in when I take it out. It
also makes easy to handle after the filter chagne.
