New tires and wheels(kind of long)

Okay, I'm am thinking of getting some aftermarket wheels and new tires for my X. Problem is that I am finding it almost impossible to come up with a tire that I like in an acceptable load range. I need at least a AT tire, Wouldn't be against a MT either. Any suggestions?I like the toyo mt but they are too hard to get a hold of, I also like the look of mickey thompson fc-II's but would need to get them in a 325-65-18,and I'm not to sure if an 18 will look good or not. I do have a 4in lift, so I was thinking a 35 or equivilant size.Again, any suggestions?

Re: New tires and wheels(kind of long)

I have 305/75/16 (33") Nitto Terra Grappler A/T (about $150.00 each + shipping)on 16x8" Weld EVO Renegade wheels. They are E rated (3525 lbs)and quite on the highway. A little on the hard side when aired up for towing but a great tire. The BFG A/T in a 295/75/16 (34"?)about $179.00 + shipping is very close to the same rating in weight (3415 lbs)but is a D rated tire. Either one is a good choice for me.
If your heart is set on 18" wheels and tires be prepaired to pay alot more for both tires and wheels.
I think you have more size choices in 16"?
I too like the looks of the 18" wheels and tires looks great on an Excursion!
I would have gone with 35" tires but I did not want to lose any more brakeing or performance and you have to lift the Excursion higher to clear 35s and I need to fit in parking structures with 6'8" clearance. Good luck. Ken

Re: New tires and wheels(kind of long)

Well, I don't really have my heart set on 18" wheells and tires, but to get a 35" tire the only ones that are e load range are for 18" wheels. All the 35" for 16" wheels are only d load range with what seems to be a max of 3200lbs. The MT tires are e load range with a max of 3900 lbs.which is a pretty god difference. Does anyone know of a 35" tire that is for a 16" wheel in load range D? And forget Toyo's ,to hard to get right now.

Re: New tires and wheels(kind of long)

Pro Comp X-Terrain, 315/75/16. 35" tire, D load range.

Been running them for about 10K miles or so on my ex, including 500-1000 miles towing my race car and 1 cross country (new york to nevada) trip.

Awesome tires off-road, and pretty good road manners, not too much excess noise compared to stock.

Thanks for the info. I'm thinking of some different tires than my loud (and starting to cup) Durangos. I'm guessing my new to me X needs an alignment...the tires I just put on are starting to wear badly.

I was thinking of 315's (I think they'd fit with my Vcodes and air bags) but I'm at 82" already and that's what my garage door is so I might be staying with 285's (and a little less air in the bags).
