Along with the latest feature (speed controlled volume) on the radio, there's another new toy that you can add.
If you've ever had a chance to test drive an up scale SUV like the GMC Yukon Denali, or the Lincoln Navigator their radios have a neat feature that allows the radio to stay on even after turning the ign key off and removing it!! (nice for when the wife goes into get groceries and you just want to set around listening to tunes without having to keep the key on or acc).
Very basically, what you do is provide a new signal to the accesory wire feeding the radio. Normally that wire is only hot with the key in acc position.
The signal you tap into is the same one that allows you to raise and lower your power windows even after the key is turned off!! Neat huh!!
Not to worry, your radio isn't going to stay on forever! This feature is only available for the same length of time the windows relay stays active.
AND, opening any door disables this feature, so if you turn the key off and open a door right away to get out the radio will power down. Staying in the truck after the wife gets out? Just turn the key back on when she's out and the doors are closed, and then turn the key right back off. You have a working radio, and power windows!!
How cool is that!!!!!!??????????
More info and links to pictures are available if you go to the "upgrades" forum in the speed controlled volume thread. You'll find good info and links about this near the end of the thread. Check it out.
I now have both mods working, speed controlled volume, and delayed-power-off.
Too cool. Where was Ford when these needed to be completed and added to (what I consider to be a high end SUV) the Excursion?

I could be missing something here, but why do this when you can just turn the ignition the "wrong way", that way you get the radio+power without the engine?

I'll answer your question with a question. Why then would all upscale luxury cars and SUV's have this feature? And to take it a step further, why would the majority of SUV's and cars have the same feature available for the window?? Your does.
I consider my truck to be upscale and everybit as good as a Navigator or Denali, don't you? Why shouldn't we enjoy the same creature comforts?
