New 'X' Dead at 28 Miles

This is just a post to make me feel better. Picked up the new wife's x late last night and I decided I would drive it today (don't really trust her to be good at break-in). Lasted 28 miles till all the fluid ran out of the auto. Pinched line or something.
Nice start...

JB: bummer.

if it is any comfort, stuff happens, and maybe the ford store will be cool about it. from what i can learn, most people [me included] are happy with them.

good luck.

Re: New 'X' Dead at 28 Miles

I know how you feel. The first new truck I ever bought (1990 Chevy 1500 2wd) lasted well under 100 miles before the rear axle crapped out. Why did it fail? NO fluid. It didn't leak out. There never was any in it. Oh well, it worked out for the best because on the new axle I got the 3.73's I wanted instead of the 3.42's the truck came with.

Re: New 'X' Dead at 28 Miles

JB:

Had my tranny go at 7000mi...

Took them a week to get a new one from the factory and they tried to put me in a Focus for a loaner...ended up with an extended cab F-150 4x4....

I think there is a fitting on one of the lines that is usually the problem.

Make sure they replace the tranny cooler also...this is now Ford policy because they could not flush them well enought and kept having repeat failures...

Works great now and they gave me two free oil changes for the hassle...($79 each!)

Re: New 'X' Dead at 28 Miles

Real bummer and I surely hope it comes out A O K.

Let us know how everything goes. I know when you get it right you are going to love it. I've had some problems with mine but not that bad and I would not take anything for it.

When you get it back if I were you I would take the bars off the luggage rack. They will rubb the paint off in a short while if
Ford has not changed them. . It would not hurt to get some test strips and check the SCA level in the coolant. I posted a reply that will tell you how and why the additive is needed and it is in this section of the forum, down below on this page.

It is Coolant Additive posted by copeland.

GOOD LUCK and take care
