New X owner with some questions.

Ok so I have had the new (used w/ 43K) X for three days now and I have figured out some things. My X is a Limited, 4x4, Diesel.

First my front springs are shot. I have about a half inch between the bump stop and spring, which makes for a harsh ride at times.
Next the shocks need to be upgraded. Mine aren't to bad yet, but still need to be addressed.

I have been searching and reading past post for two days now and I need some things cleared up.

I don't want the X leveled, I want about a 2" lift give or take half an inch. I like the idea of using factory springs, but which will give me 2" of lift? I need part numbers if possible. I also need to know which block to use in the rear to achieve 2" of lift? What size block does an X come with from the factory?

I have decided to go with the adjustable Ranchos for shocks and have read a little about them on this board, but if anyone has input on better shocks I would like to hear different opinions.

I own a shop and I plan on ordering the parts on Monday while I have the truck in the paint shop. As I said in an eariler post this is for my wife and she is ready to get her X. Plus I have sold my house in Dallas and I need the X to tow in the coming weeks and would like to have it straight.

All input is appreciated.

If you have factory shocks, they are shot with 10 miles, let alone 43K.

No, they are not shot, they come from the factory like that, which sucks pretty bad. Most folks here upgrade to a higher code front spring which levels the X and gives a better ride. I forget what the current favorite code is.

Yup. I think the Rancho 9000x adjustable shock is the one of choice here. Folks usually replace the front steering damper too with Rancho.

I can help only a little with this question. The stock 4x4 X comes with 2" blocks. The F-350 has 4" blocks. You can go down to your local f*rd dealer and check the part numbers right there on the lot. I think you'll need X code springs for the front to get the lift you are after. On the board, someone worked out a spreadsheet that would show you what you'll get for what code springs you get. I'd start with the search and see if you can find anything. 'x code' and 'spring' are a good place to start.

Enjoy the new ride!!!

Re: New X owner with some questions.

The hard part about part#'s is that they change about every 3 months for some reason. Bruce1954 has made some great posts on this forum if you read back aways that describes the height gained by each code. FWIW, I've got the U-Codes and I went from the 1/2 that you describe to a hair over 2 inches. I haven't checked them for settling lately, but I think I'm still right at 2 inches (bumpstop to axle pad). I think if you want a full two inches that V or X codes will do it.

Have a good one,
Dave
