Glad to see that everybody`s got that warm fuzzy feeling goin on,.....It just fills my "mean posting", "feeble minded" self with such joy in the true sisterhood that has been displayed here today! I think I`m gonna cry!
I`ll take my sorry butt back over to the super duty forum where thick skin and good natured humor is more appreciated.
I failed to recognize the special bond that all you "car pool ladies" have over here in the station wagon forum.

So I'm not a real man because I don't drive a Super Duty with a PSD? Does that truck have some sort of testosterone injection system that the Excursion lacks?
But seriously, the Excursion "staion wagon" is just a Super Duty with an integrated shell and removable third seat. Why does the need for these features make me a "car pool lady?" I guess I don't understand your reasoning because my adequacy as a male has never been augmented by the vehicle I drive.
and don`t forget to let your husband cut the turkey!! ha ha ha!!

Thanks to those of you who have been supportive. The truth is the information I've gathered here has given me a great understanding of the PSD and I'm sure it's every bit the best diesel available for our class of truck. I may have decided on the V10 this time, but I'll continue to read and learn about the PSD and perhaps circumstances will warrant me one in the future.
In the meantime, when I encounter a PSD on the road, I'll smile at the driver knowing he/she got what he/she wanted and so did I.
All I can say is gas prices have been going up,up,up. I would not want to get stuck with a V10 if gas goes over $2.00 a gallon. If you can afford it that's fine, but if fuel reaches that level you will have a hard time unloading it when you want to buy a new one in a few years. Remember the cars back in the 70's with the big block V8's? They couldn't give them away after the Arab oil embargo.
Personally I love the sound and feel of a diesel engine. But that's a personal thing I guess.

Good for you! We hope you find it to be the awesome tow rig it is designed to be.
the 4.30 gears do seem like overkill to me, but I have 4.10s so who am I to judge

The price of diesel fuel in my area runs equal to a few cents higher than gasoline. It's also been going up just like gasoline.
As for the 4.30 gears, I'm only getting them because I want limited slip. Ford doesn't offer 3.73LS with the V10.
Anyway, since this my first time out with a truck this big, I'm only gonna lease it and only for two years. That way I don't have to worry about unloading it should gas prices skyrocket.
Dear Wayne:
We are happy that you found this forum in your quest to learn about the PSD. We are also happy that you ordered an Excursion. But since you ordered a V-10 then the quest for the PSD is null and void and maybe you can find a V-10 forum somewhere. Keep the bookmark so when your lease is up you can come back. Otherwise leave us idiots who have ordered or own a PSD in either a pickup or an Excursion to bask in our stupidity. The whole premise of this site is about PSD and other diesels in general. So don't cry and say we are insensitive to your needs. Your selection of the V-10 was your decision. I respect that, but you can't back up "NO PSD FOR ME", just by hearing what you think is cackle without owning one with all the good and the bad that goes with it. I tell it like it is! We have had several people in other forums that have had lemons and problems, but at least they earned them. All diesels knock, but I haven't met many first time diesel owners that knew the difference. You knowledge of gassers doesn't exactly make you an expert in diesels or the reason not to buy one. Maybe you can E-Mail one of the administrators and get them to set up a "V-10 is the engine FOR ME FORUM". Good Luck with your V-10, I will give you updates on my knocking, smoking, cackling, glow plugging, sparkplug-less, bad investment, PSD EXCURSION in the next few weeks .

Good luck and best wishes to all PSD owners. I'm glad you have found the truck/engine combination that suits your needs best.
Since I came here to research a purchase decision and decided against the PSD, I shall take my leave of this site until the time comes to consider another diesel-equipped Ford product. Maybe I'll even learn the difference between a cackle and a hole in the ground in order to avoid stepping on any egos next time I visit.
Finally, I would say, "look me up in the car pool lane or the mall parking lot," but those things don't exist in my area. I guess I'll just have to settle for the snow-covered trails of Western Wyoming. That is assuming my wimpy V10 can pull my other gas hog - a Yamaha SRX 700 - through the mountains.
Wayne, after you get your v-10 Exc. lets us know how you like it. Even though this is a PSD Excursion forum I for one like to know about the other engines and how they perform.

Since some of you are interested in my V10 data, I will come back and post it after I take delivery of my Excursion.
And for those of you who took issue with this thread, please understand that I did not mean to shed any negative light on the PSD or the people who own one. (Text-based forms of communication often fail to convey the proper intent or spirit of the writer's words.)
