* noob here. . . entering a new world

whats up? im jumping the gun joining this site, but im excited about my truck ill be gettin next week.

i'll be picking up a used 1 owner 00' X limited TD i've wanted one for awhile, but they were always alittle out of my league and i was going to wait for the prices to come down... now that they are a few years old the gas versions are gettin pretty cheap, but all my friends assured me i wanted a diesel. . .but they were still about 5k more easily... well finally found a TD in my range..being it has a ton of miles on it. a tad under 200k now i know diesels can go forever with proper care. Im not only a new owner but im new to diesels all together... so ive been reading alot of posts and trying to learn all these new terms and abbrev.
My 1st few mods will be trying to squeeze some MPG's out of this thing. . and i love the fact that these motors can be tweeked with small mods that cost little to nothing. Im also open to these mods. Would like to do some audio upgrades as well. So bare with me while i learn a thing or 2

Welcome. Enjoy the new truck. Mine's a 2000 and i still love it. First truck I kept more than 2 years. I hope the prior owner took good care of it for you--with that high miles, he must have, right?

I'm very impressed with my mileage (average mpg) that so much metal can be moved so quickly for so cheap

There are some mpg tricks - keep it under 2000 rpm, stock tires, and some others, but don't forget to floor it once in awhile.

Welcome to the site and congrats on the 2000 X!

The harpoon mod is when you cut back the vent tube inside the fuel tank pictures courtesy of forgotton.net;
Before Mod
Vent Tube cut
Vent and Fill tube cut
After the mod you can add almost 4 more gallons of fuel to the tank than before the mod.

The zoodad as it's called is when you use a 2" holesaw for example to make 2 or more holes in front of the air intake tube which is to the left side of the AC condensor,that'll allow cool more free flowing air to the engine.

Myself I went a little beyond as I do on all mods My Version allows all fresh air to come from the grille area,if there's a concern over bugs I use a summer grille screen and a winter cover during the cold months.

The mod has been on our X for more than 2 years now and haven't ingested any water.
