Oil leak?

When I scoot under my truck, say to change the oil, I always see that a black metal piece with a little birds mouth opening is wet with oil. Is this the vent spot that people mention that there is a mod for? Or do I have an oil leak?

I get the same small spot too, it is the cover for the torque converter, it could be a small leak at the rear main. Mine does not drip to the ground but it is there. I'm very impressed with the lack of oil leaks, I park on new concrete and I never have a drip of anything. So far it has been the only engine I have ever owned that does not leak. The boat engines are the worst. I could seal it in epoxy and the rear main would still leak.

There is also a drain for oil that gathers in the valley on the top of the engine. It is probably more common that the leak is on the top of the engine than the rear main.

There are few places that leak on top. The HPOP o-rings, turbo seals, and one more that is slipping my mind at the moment.

It isn't impossible for the rear main to be leaking, but it isn't very common.
