Oil Recommendation

What brand and weight is everyone using? Dealer I bought it from says he ran straight 30 in it. Thats no good here in Chicago. Thinking about Rotella Synthetic or just plugging it in every night. Oil was just changed before I got it. Thanks in advance

Re: Oil Recommendation

We been using TRAVELLER PREMIUM ALL FLEET DIESEL 15W-40 Oil from TSC which has an API Classification of CI-4/SL which is the same as Delo 400 and Shell Rotella.

We get it off the shelf for $1.02 per quart.

If you have to plug the block heater in pick up a timer 15 amp/1875 watt rated timer at Home Depot and have it set to kick on 3-4 hours before you fire the truck up,it'll save you some money in the long run on electricity, saving will probably pay for the timer and cord in the first month or two.

Re: Oil Recommendation

I stopped by the local TSC in Enfield CT and they were selling it for $1.67 a quart! Is there a secret handshake I don't know about?

Can't answer that one
According to their site pricing varies from store to store?
It's still less than a case of 4 gal jugs of Delo

Was that in 2 gallon jugs or 1 quart bottles?

The $1.08 is in 1 quart bottles. All TSC oil is $1.08 in 1 quart bottles. That's why it is so cheap. TSC prices all of its oil in 1 quart bottles the same.

Last time I looked, the 2 gallon (8 quart) jugs were ~$13.

Stupid TSC.

Re: Oil Recommendation

Quaker State 4X4 Synthetic.

I've used it from day 1 with no problems.

That was in a 2 gallon jug, I just did the math to come up with $1.67 a quart. Silly me. Guess I'll have to ask an employee about the one quart bottles because all they had on the shelf was the 1 and 2 gallon jugs.

I also noticed that the larger the container, the greater the price per quart of oil....backwards if you ask me.

Re: Oil Recommendation

In the end....if you change your oil and filters in a reasonable time frame and use the recomended viscosities.....any oil is good. Any brand, dino or synthetic. Some of us like to use what we consider "The best" but at the end of the day all of our PSD's should go 250K or more assuming proper maintenance and not pushing the mods to hard. Its like asking whats better....Pizza or Speghetti.....ask a thousand folks and not only will you get a split between the two, but you'll have each person recomend a brand of each. Opinions are like butt holes, everyones got one, but no-one wants to hear the other guys.
