Tomorrow's the day I buy the X.
Before I do it though, I want you all to try to talk me out of it. If you can't, then I know I'm making the right choice.
An '00 with 50k for $25k. I'll be using it as a beach buggy, fishing for stripers and hunting for ducks on the Jersey shore. I'll also be running some trails to get to my upland bird and deer spots, but mainly it'll be a daily driver. I have no plans to do any towing.
To quote Ross Perot "The prettiest girl in the world has a wart somewhere. I want to hear about the wart."
Well I'll give it a shot. $25000. 4 year loan at 6% = $587 and change, every month for 48 stinking months. Month after month after month of sending the bank $587 and change. You'll be an old man by the time its paid off. You could get a nice new KIA for half that. heheheh
Well let me know how I did. Roger

Pretty darned weak guys. Ya gotta do much better than that.
Is it really much bigger than our other "car", a Gladiator conversion van on a 1500 series chassis?
As for the sand, I've tracked down two people who have them tricked out as buggies - they don't get stuck, they help pull other people out. I take that as a plus.
$580.00 a month my @ss! I went with a 6 year at 5.19%, $430 month (E-loan)- when I make a decision, I stick with it. I'm targeting having it for at least 10 years. My Bronco is still running strong at 13 years and 180,000 miles. BTW, have you seen the price for the Kia SUV?? They are outa their minds!!
It'll make you too happy and people will think you're a moron because you can't quit smiling -
N/A, there's lots of people that think I'm a moron already, so at least I hope to be a happy idiot.
You wife/girlfriend will kill you for spending all your time and money fixing it up -
OK I'll give you this one. She's already beoching that I'm spending too much time researching this choice.
Let's go guys, there has to be something unpleasant that I'll have to face with this truck.
You guys have missed the BIGGEST one, "IT IS A GAS SUCKING PIG......."
uuuhhhhh wait, it is a PSD???? if not the above could be sorta close...

It's definately no worse than a 1/2 ton conversion van. That's what I upgraded from, and I have no problems. The backup sensors make backing up very nice (always the worst part of the van). The only "knock" you'll probably have switching over is that you don't have the great knowledge of where your front corners are in the X (that you do in the van). I've gotten so comfortable with mine that I can put it about anywhere that it will fit. My wife swears it's more manueverable than our van was. (She hated it, but loves the x . I have to hide the keys)

The Environazi whackos will plaster your X with bumper stickers, or key the paint, or torch it.
There, that may stop you. But not me, I'm still going to get one.

This is NJ not California. Here we like all the toxic chemicals in the swamp mud of the Meadowlands, it helps disolve the bodies faster. (Don't you watch The Suprano's?)
The roof rack cross-beams are too low, and will scratch the HECK out of your paint. The solution is to take them off. You probably don't want to have to deal with that terrible issue, so don't buy the X. I mean, it will take you at least 10 minutes without tools to perform this task, and now the X looks wimpy without the roof racks.
But seriously, you may want to check that out before you buy and if it's scratched up bad, you can either have the dealer repaint it for free, replace the roof racks with an aftermarket brand, or get a discount.
Just hit my first 250 miles, I LOVE this thing! Makes parting with the old Bronco much easier (still hurts though).
The dealer replaced the ball joints and the shocks but not the front springs. I took a measurement on them, only about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch to the block. Should I be changing them out now or do I have a few miles left?
