Options for '00 Stereo replacement?

My '00 is long past the 100k miles warranty... The dealer replaced the stock stereo head under warranty last time it went bad.

The head should have CD / Cassette / iPod / Aux inputs. I don't care about a 6 disk CD changer. Maybe the 6-disk changer in the console would work, but if not, no worry.

The new unit needs to have at least an AUX input, but I'd prefer an iPod control. That's what feeds the unit 95% of the time for the past three years or so (through the cassette, which is what croaked).

The stock "Dual Play" feature is turning into a real convenience -- at least the ability to completely turn off the rear speakers at the push of a button.

Bluetooth is a maybe...

What's out there that'll fit the dash. Is it a standard double-DIN?

Thanks!

Re: Options for '00 Stereo replacement?

I won't comment on the head unit, there are too many to choose from, but do yourself a favor and take advantage of the best piece of audio gear you'll ever hear (and feel!) that fits in these trucks...

I have a double DIN in one of my trucks-fit with a slight bit of trimming to the area around the stock opening-actually just used a straight file to clean things up...Crutchfield sells many with lots of options-and includes an adapter cable with every unit.

Re: Options for '00 Stereo replacement?

I installed a double DIN Eclipse in my X and love the backup camera. Car toys in denver installed it for around $1,500. I sold my factory system on ebay last week for $145 for the radio and $95 for the changer. There are lots of factory decks on there.

Re: Options for '00 Stereo replacement?

If you don't need the cassette for anything else just add an Aux input for your iPOD. I purchased an aux input adapter that connects to the back of the radio as a CD changer. Push the CD button twice and it switches to the aux input. I connect my iPOD up to it, but you can use any mp3 device if you like. That way I get my music in the front, the kids get games and movies in the back.

You can get the adapter at MyRadioStore. Mounts for iPOD, cell phone, etc to fit the X can be pruchased there or at Pro-Fit. Mine mounts right under the radio.

For iPOD lovers you can get an adapter to control your iPOD through the factory radio and steering wheel controls from Peripheral Electronics. Too bad it came out after I got mine. [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif[/img]

You might want to check out a unit from Valor, specifically the NVG-670WT. It's not really on their website yet, so I have included some scanned images taken from the CES show where it was released. It has everything you want, and then some. I was looking for something for one of my sports cars, and when a friend in the business suggested this head unit, I thought it would be great for my X as well. You can get it with or without navigation (NVG-670WT is w/NAV, and the 660 is without NAV).

Highlights:
-NAV built in. Only requires an antenna to be installed. (670)
-Maps are loaded to a 4 Gig SD card (no dvd map needed, which also allows for true multi-zone functionallity).
-Built in iLink for iPod.
-XM ready.
-Wireless remote.
-1 a/v imput, 2 a/v outputs.
-video input for rear vision camera.
-Bluetooth.
-PAL & NTSC support.

I just ordered two units, so it will be about a month before I have it installed. I will report back if anyone is interested.

Oh, the reported retail price is 1899.95. The price I got from a friend is 1400.00.

Hmm, not sure why the [img] tags are not working, but you can see my friends write-up on the unit here, along with some pics.
