OVERHEATING PROBLEM...HELP

I just bought a 2001 Excursion. Today it overheated to the point of shutting itself off. It only has 1081 miles on it. Has anybody had this problem?

Does anyone know what long term damage this may cause?

Re: OVERHEATING PROBLEM...HELP

How long have you had it? maybe the t-stat is not opening. Well could be several things including the t-stat: water level, water pump, fan clutch/clutch circuit. It could also be a faulty temp sensor saying its hot when its not. Too bad you have problems already, we've got 1,500 on ours. It had 35 miles on it when I got it. It seemed to run like crap for a little while but I think that was fuel related. I'm only getting 14 mpg also, I was thinking It was going to be better!

Re: OVERHEATING PROBLEM...HELP

Worm,

Hang on -- it gets better. We started out with 10-12 mpg. It gradually rose over time to 14-15-16-17-18-19-20mpg. Make sure you count by the old fashioned manual method. As a check you can use the mpg guage but make sure you reset it with each fill up.
