P265/75R/16 Dunlop AT

Are P rated tires ok for the Excursion? I occasionally tow a 5k boat.
I ordered LT265 from Goodyear and I just looked at them when I got home(it was raining heavy when I picked it up) and see they gave me P265 instead. I am already going to hit them with the fact that I can get them $17 per tire cheaper at Samsclub but want to see if I should have them order the correct tire or just get a refund for the difference. The P265 is rated for 2600 per tire and the LT is 3000.(Dunlop Radial Rover AT.) I feel it should have the LT265 but was not sure if I was getting too concerned over the load differences.

P.S. I think the tire guy tried to pull a fast one when he said he could match prices on the LT 265s at Sams. Probably thought most people would not notice the difference. I hope not but it is suspicious.

The new tires must be rated at least what the door jamb factory sticker states. I believe you need at least a D range tire in the 26575R16 size. Sorry for the bad news but I believe they are trying to pull one on you.

Hope this helps,
John

John

Last I knew the P in a tire size stands for passenger car tire.
The x weighs in at 8200# empty (unloaded) double my towncar, one of the larger "passenger cars" on the planet. I would never put P rated tires on a 3/4 ton truck. I have even connsidered E range tire for the rear since I do not have to ride back there, and I know when I load up the family at over 10K gross 6K of it is on the rear axle but then I could not rotate. The 285s I have are rated nicely over 3000 so I feel ok about it.

Re: P265/75R/16 Dunlop AT

My 2003 6.0 came with LT265/75R16E BFG Rugged Trail T/A tires rated at 3,415 lbs @ 80 psi. The P265's are rated at 44 lbs psi maximum and you will be on the 6 o'clock news if you tow your 5,000 lb boat with P rated tires.
