Paint minus Lead

When I bought my new excursion in Feb....I went to the business office and was prepared to sign all the paper work....when I was finalizing my payments the dealer put in a paint treatment and said I really needed it and the extended warranty. He said the new paint doesn't have lead in it and would need a treatment to protect it. I promptly told him to take all of that off and was not interested in anything extra at this time. Does anyone know about the paint treatment and if it is a good idea or just another way for them to get your money?

Re: Paint minus Lead

Sounds like a dealer that wanted a few extra $$... My opinion.

Re: Paint minus Lead

I agree. The dealer is trying to slip in some lucrative last minute extras.

The "Paint Treatment" is probably just some kid putting a coat of wax on your truck. Usually some plain old polymer wax with a fancy name. Costs them $20 and they charge you $300.00.

Extended warrenties are also big profit makers with huge markups. Opinions differ on whether they're worth it - if you do buy one, the price should be negotiable.

Re: Paint minus Lead

pmichael,

I have all my new rides 'paint sealed' with commercial paint sealant. The dealership I go to owns their own machine and I get it for free. I have it applied every 6 months, never have to wax the truck. Paint shines like glass. Not sure what it runs retail pricing.

Re: Paint minus Lead

What I find interesting is how these dealers get away with a lot of this stuff. Because of this forum, my salesman never even asked me about any extended warranty's of paint sealers, etc... Now I provided my own financing and he delivered the truck to our home. SO there was none of this crap. No hassle and I loved it. For once I was in the drivers seat. Now, I'm still undecided on how to approach the extended warranty, but for now I have a long ways to go before I need to make that decision.
